When I had upgraded to Windows XP, I discovered that the 2nd mouse, if plugged in, would behave very laggy and shaky in Serious Sam. However, I have found the solution to this problem, it involves turning of FIFO-mode for a serial port. It'll make the 2nd mouse work, but other hardware may become slower with FIFO mode off, so you may want to turn it on again after playing.

Note: I'm using the Dutch version of Windows XP, so I translated some things to English. Excuse me if my translations aren't entirely correct.

Click Start-->Control Panel-->System-->Hardware-->Device Manager.
Now click "Ports (COM & LPT)". Right-click the port you want to use with the 2nd mouse, and click Properties. Click Port Settings-->Advanced.
Now uncheck the box "Use FIFO-buffers". To turn them back on, you have to check it again of course.

Another note on using the 2nd mouse with Serious Sam: make sure you plug it in quite a while after Windows has started, because it won't work if you plug it in too soon. I usually plug it in after Serious Sam has started.

Unh... this might be a stupid question but why a second mouse and how would you set it up for gameplay?. I can see the possibilities but, ah hell just answer da question please.

Firstly, you'll need version 1.02 of higher of Serious Sam. Make sure your normal mouse is a ps/2 mouse (round plug), and start Windows. When Windows has fully booted, plug in a second, serial mouse. Start Serious Sam. To use the second mouse, you first have to load the "2nd mouse" control profile for a player. Then you can modify the controls to fit your needs. If you start a split-screen game, and make sure you add the player with the "2nd mouse" profile, it'll work.

Yes, it works with USB mice too, but I haven't tried it. So I don't know if it works with a PS/2 and USB mouse, or 2 USB mice, or an USB and serial mouse, but I guess any combination will work.

Dual mouse support does work with Serious Sam Second Encounter, in exactly the same way it does with the normal SS.
