Since you know so much about the editor (wonder why...) i was wondering what the "export 3d object" button does (under >File). Does this have anything to do with having some unique ability to modell using the editor??

Well, I know something about the editor, by virtue of having done some experimenting with it and my ongoing work on editing and contributing to the Serious Editor: Item-by-Item help/doc (available for download from the Downloads - Miscellaneous area on this site and the tutorial or downloads area on the Serious Editing site (www.massassi.net/serious). But I still have gaping areas of ignorance and inexperience and need to learn a lot more (time spent writing about the editor is time spend not actually editing.........so I'm failing to keep up with crowd).

As far as the "export 3D object"......... I believe it exports the selected brush(s) in the .RAW file format....... which is apparently just that....... a raw triangle format (sort of a lowest common denominator format from the CAD and 3D modelling fields) which can be read in by or converted by numerous CAD and 3D programs and converters. Presumably is useful for enabling the creation of models from brushes created in the editor

Well, heres another question... how can you use this tool? It always seems to be un-highlighted, even when i have a brush selected.

You are referring to the "export 3D"? Try going into Polygon mode ("P"), selecting the polygons that you wish to export (you can double click a polygon on a brush to select all polygons on the brush) and then doing the "export 3d"?

why thank you!
if only i had a program to read .raw files....

Well, many 3D programs can read .raw apparently, including some free/affordable ones. If you already have a 3D program, check to see if it can. If not, check out the commercial and shareware packages listed on www.3dlinks.com and elsewhere.

If you don't already have a 3D program, my suggestion would be that you try MilkShape3D (free time limited eval available for download, $20 purchase price). It's not the most powerful or elegant modeler/animator by any means, but it offers a nice gaming oriented balance of modeling, animation, file conversion and direct support for Serious Sam and price. It appears that a number of folks who have higher end 3D programs also find it a useful addition to their toolkit.

I'm sure that some followup organization/cleanup of the raw triangles is needed, in order to turn them into a useful model.......but my impression is that MilkShape, LightWave, 3D Studio, etc. have the facilities for doing this.

Sponge the Bob,

Did you check out the www.3dlinks.com site? Take a look at the shareware modelers and converters categories listed in the left hand margin. Between the two categories, you should be able to find something to convert .raw to something you can use......... and you should be able to find one or more capable free modelers.

:) Well, Im becoming very interested in G-MAX (http://www.discreet.com/products/gmax/gmaxconsumer/)

Has anybody used it? Can it be used in conjunction with SS?? Its free, and it looks GREAT!

each game has to right it's own converter for gmax. I don't think they can do it unless they pay.
