question of the first is as follows: will ss maps be compatable with ss 2?
question two: Why didnt u just make ss 2 a mod?

I have the feeling that maps and mods may be compatible with the new game... Regarding certain necessities for maps being compatible, I think they'll include all the textures from SS:FE in with SS:SE, so that maps are compatible.
It's already been confirmed that installing the SE in the same location as FE will save you installation space. I think this (textures, sounds) is the biggest space saver that could happen, and thus my above opinion. :)

Maps from FE can be loaded in Tools from SE. Vice versa is also possible.

Well, 3d particles have been added in the latest patch for SS, so the grass should be able to be used in SS 1.

You can load them in FE Tools, just saving them would prolly kill some new features.

I've always been under the general assumption that Croteam was going to add evolving features (such as SKA, particles, etc) into the original FE tools and game engine.
Of course, attempting to make grass in an FE map will not be possible unless you have the nescessary textures and stuff... so you'll have to work with FE-only things if you want people who don't have the second encounter to be able to play it.
