View Full Version : I keep getting stuck in the sides of my elevator
I was playing around with stuff in the editor, figured out how to do a door etc. So next I tried an elevator enclosed by 1m high railing on three sides. I made a seperate movingbrush for each piece of railing and parented it to the floor part. I'm using a doorcontroller to trigger it right now, the elevator goes up and down just fine(after I changed the speed to something non-instant :) ), BUT going into the railing gets me stuck inside, unable to move. I've started playing with the other movingbrush settings for collisions and such but then it just starts crushing me :( How can I get around this problem?

you can make the elevator one moving brush, by giving the brush a name like "complex elevator", then you can choose it on the csg creation pulldown menu and make additions to the moving brush by adding it.
ummm, yeah. i cant really explain it well, but it can be done easily.

yeah diego is right!
add the railings to the rest of the elevator:
1.select the railings
2.ensure the active brush is the elevator (the dropdown menu in the topleft part of screen, as diego says u should rename the elevator to be called 'elevator' rather than worldbase)
3. press add or + key.
railings can sometimes make a mess of your elevator, creating holes and such when added. if you get holes in your elevator, triangularize before adding the rails to it

I should really get around to making a door for once huh.
Thanks for all the help guys, now I can go on to other things assured of my ability in elevator-making :) One question though. What if you wanted to make the railing breakable, but not the rest of the elevator? Since parenting caused my original problem, that obviously shouldn't work. I have an idea in mind right now(sort of a hack, and you might notice the visual problem, and no it doesn't involve making the railing passable), but I want to see everyone else's ideas first.
one trick i use, when i want to keep objects separate, but to move together, is to make them both moving brushes, then trigger them at the same time, and move them on separate sets of markers. As long as they are set to ignore player collisions, so one doesnt take off without the other, you should b fine. then later, you can destroy just the railing mover.
