My first model is up, it's a tree/plant.
I made one mistake with my skin,
(which was I did not remove the template from behind my painted skin picture. I've updated my site with a slightly better skin, and I'll send the upgraded file link to Vesto
when I wake up properly).

I've read heaps about modeling of late, and it really is
pretty fantastic a skill to learn, now that I am a liberated newbie modeler, expect more simplistic plants and other furnishings asap.

Please feel free to give me any advice, or suggestions for models you need in your maps, and I will do them for you if I can. Note, I am not able to do complicated mechs or stuff at this point, but, I'm very interested in general furnishings/plants/etc, I'm going to do that sort of stuff, and leave the harder stuff until I get more skill together.

I'll be back!

HY forager,

After we have now fixed that silly UV-problem, many other things are getting up for me! in things for weapons!

I really want to have a cool tree, like the great "oldtree" from the original game but with leaves, what you think?

What "old tree" are you referring to? Which game?
Do you mean test 1 or 2 or what?

There is old tree model used in "terrain" levels

I'm still waiting for a retail version of the game to
arrive in Australia so I probably have not got that model.
However, I was digging around the models directory with new enthusiasm, and I found the "fish" model.
Wow, it's such a cool model. In fact the models are all
very well done, absolutely fantastic, I find that the more I am getting to know the engine and tools, the more
impressed I become by the sheer awesome quality of the
work on all dimensions!

I checked model, looking good for someone with not much expirience in modeling and Modeler, only watchout for polycount, maybe to much for such model.

I tryed to optimise it, but, it still was too big eh?
I'll try harder for my next shrub.

If you dont plan to animate it, you have to many segments on body, rather make body more oval (more sides) and remove segments. One good ide would be to make bush with few of plants as one object/model. Its not polycount that might slow things down, its number of models.

hey hey,

just an imagination! I make a basicplane with 60 vertexes, now I create a tree out of this. Itīs only one model!
This means to me that I can make a tree with 200 vertexes and it dont slow down the engine cuz itīs only one MODEL?

So I think- if I understand you right admir, when I make a weaponmodel with maybe 900 polygons out of 2 models- it effect the engine not worster as a 500 polygon weapon with 3 modelparts?

that would be a ground breaking thing I know

I was thinking more about:
if you have ~100 tree models with 200 polys each problem for opengl is number of models rather then total number of polygons

Admir, so if one was making "unique use once" models, it would not matter if poly count was high?

I apologise for not replying earlier. I was
busy with fixing hole in roof! I also have been thinking about what you wrote, which was very interesting, but I do not understand all things yet. I still have problems
in optimizing for low poly count etc.
On the other hand, I have put up my new model!
Which has "problems" and a high poly count.
But also is quite nice to look at.

I have asked Chilli for further help regarding
low poly modelling sklls, but admit, even skinning the models turns me on.

I still am very keen on the editor, it's great,, but now at least, I can make some form of models, and I can do skinning as well as potentially writing maps.

All advice from you is very gratefuly read.
I have a lot to learn about this very technical craft/art.
