View Full Version : What about female player models?

Greets all! *Bought "Serious Sam" two days ago, and WOW!! *GREAT game, impressive graphics, I am just stunned! *Stayed up all night last night playing co-op with my hubby, best game we've played in a long time, and it worked perfectly right out of the box! *Way to go Dev Team! *
My question is this (and only minor complaint about the game)... there are no female player models. *Is anybody making fems, and if not, is a female model doable?
I'm so glad we found this game... especially since Tribes 2 has turned out to be a rather large hairy dog off the shelves. *grin*
Cheers!

Naked skins maybe? Speaking of skins maybe someone should look into skin proceedures if it is even possible.

:o Eh, SuperTech, I doubt that's such a great topic to discuss with Fiore. ;)
Besides, aren't we mature enough to not need naked models? We're playing Serious Sam!

We will have female player models (doubt they will be naked). They will be avail shortly (depends if will i be able to work 24h/day).
Admir
I m thinking of making one.

Thanks, Admir, looking forward to it! But try to get *some* sleep, dude, so you can keep up the good work!
Yes i have already rescalled her ;).
I didnt know how difficult it is to model boobs.

Guys,
When you registered on this forum, you agreed not to indulge in sexist language, etc. Please stick with that agreement.
To date, the Serious community has managed to remain civilized...and frankly, I think that has helped with the excellent reception that the game has received. Let's keep it that way and make certain that everyone is welcome and treated equally and with respect.
Thanks.

Greeting and salutations!
I am Fiore's husband :)
I just wanted to pop in and say hi and to offer my deepest thanks and congratulations to the dev team for making such an AWESOME game. Honestly this has been the most stable and enjoyable product I have bought in a very LONG time. Kudos for showing the rest of the gaming community what it looks like done RIGHT.
Also I have a question concerning importing of models, from what I am reading it appears alot of the modeling was done with lightwave 3d, I am curious if models could be imported from other games into lightwave and then into SS?
Thoughts?

You can convert them to .3ds, .obj or .lwo, animate them in any 3d app (if needed) and then import in Serious Modeler.

I had the same idea to compile some weopons (no names will givin) into a game I really enjoyed! I asked their customer support before I do so byting things and get a serious
********NO,NO,NO**********!
I think it´s better to ask their creators before doing anything wrong with such things!

Thanks guys :)
Phan you bring up a good point, and of course any models I would attempt that with I would of course ask permission to do so, also that brings up another good point and question, just as the dev team is releasing models for use in creating mods etc, others have done.
Once you have modded a model..(I know the word is getting used far too much in this paragraph.) does it become your creation regardless of it's origins? Anywho I think you see where I'm stumbling with this.

Common thing AFAIK is to state something like: based on original model by XYZ, or original by XYZ and modifications by you. Also, some people dont like their work being modified, you better ask them before :)
P.S. we dont have such problems here, do what you want with models/textures, just add us to credits :)

Here is my [incorrect] theory on how girl gamers are always taken:
Boy has girlfriend. Girlfriend plays no video games. Boy introduces video games to girlfriend, some she likes, like Serious Sam. They both play Serious Sam.
There you go...

I my case you'd be half right, Stiben. I only played Mechwarrior 2 when Dante and I met (around beginning of April 1998). *We were introduced by a mutual acquaintance on Kali, and I joined his clan that night. *Let's just say that Dante made a seriously good impression on me during that first meeting. ;) *It only took me 5 days to give him a call (we were 900 miles apart), and we spent 5 hours on the phone. *We continued to hang out online for a few weeks, and decided that this had to be love at first sight (if that's possible online :o). *Mind you, at that point we had NO idea what each other looked like! *It was kind of funny, because we told each other that: "I don't care if you look like Quasimodo." *:D *Dante got to see my pic about three weeks into our "courtship", and I didn't get to see his until about a couple of weeks after that.
Well, we decided that we had to get together live and in person, and see if what we were feeling was real, or if it was just some fantasy fling, so at the end of May I flew out to Colorado to meet him. *I must say, that is one weekend of my life that I'll never forget, and we both were miserable when I had to leave (had kids at home from my prior marriage. *Incidentally, all this was occurring while I was getting divorced).
We made the CEOs of AT&T rich that summer, because we never saw each other again until Sept 3, 1998. *We married Sept 4th. *We've heard that we were the first couple to meet on Kali and then marry. :cheesy: *
As for the gaming part, Mech2 went the way of the dodo for various reasons, and we started playing GLQuake for a while, then played Diablo a bit, then Q2. *I sucked at both, but Dante tried to teach me everything he knew. *Sometimes I get it, sometimes I don't. **lol* *We didn't really get into first person shooters until Unreal came out. *Then came TRIBES, which totally rocked!! *That's when I started getting into FPSes big time. *We lived on the Tribes servers for almost a year, either in-game or in mIRC. *Then it seemed like everybody and their dog was getting high speed access except us, and we fell away from online gaming, playing Revenant and Darkstone, and getting more into RPGs. Dante also plays Half-Life and its spinoffs, all of which freak me out because of the creepy stuff whose moans echo down the hallways and then jumps out at you. *Of course, the fact that he reached under the table and grabbed my ankle while I was playing didn't help any.
Now we're seriously into Sam, but we like playing Unreal Tournament also... although we only play in-house on our server, against the bots. *Don't have to worry about cheaters that way. *We have three kids (11, 9, and 1), so we don't get a whole lot of gaming time, at least not nearly what we used to. *I know that Croteam wanted to make Sam longer, but I like the fact that we can sit down and plow co-op through the whole game (on tourist) in about 6 hours. *I don't play much singleplayer anything... I much prefer to play co-op with my honey. *Of course, gunning him down in UT and watching his head "pop off like a little cork" is pretty cool too. *
I think that was way more than you wanted to know *:)
As for other girl-gamers, I think that most of the ones you see online are there of their own accord. *The ones I've met whose boyfriends have introduced them to gaming are in the minority. *That's just my experience though.

The lady does me credit, I am a very lucky man and I know it, we have a rich life, wonderful children..(except of course when they are misbehaving, at which point they become "HER KIDS" and I want to strangle them) ;)
In all seriousness it's been the best thing that has ever happend to me, the only advice I can offer for any of you looking for chicks, "Nerdy" or otherwise :) is to be honest, be yourself, tell them of your dreams and fears, your glorious victories and faliures, tell them everything, keep nothing back. You'll never regret it. Dare to be passionate. Love risks and is risked.
Damnit now I've gone and waxed poetic...sorry :(

Totally Agree Dante. My wife puts up with a lot of my crap. Between running a business and gaming I have very little time for any thing else as she puts it. Both my sons love computers and gaming also. She is the only woman in a house with four boys. ;)
Would not replace her for any thing. :)

GREAT JOB!!!! She looks wonderful, and I think her butt looks fine. I can't tell you how nice is is to see a female model who doesn't have a chest like Lara Croft (like she could really run with those things. the bounce alone would give her damage points *lol*)

Slightly under 1K ATM, but I do perhaps have more detail then is really nessassary. I had a version with seperate fingers, but I decided that that wasnt needed. Since the SS engine has a reputation for Serious polycounts I can easily re-add them...

"How many polys in her so far ?"
I was tempted to reply something along the lines of "I wouldn't mind adding a couple of my own polygons" but I won't ;-p
She's nice and all, but why is it that all those models are just that - models. Most of them would fit nicely on a catwalk.
Personally I'm 192 cm, 82 kg with a slight beer gut and generally a "stick", but can I portray that? NOOOO I have to look like Arnold or someone like that.
Realistic models please. Would be fun seeing a 250 kilo, 175 cm fat guy running around :-) (no - "horizontally/gravitationally challenged" is more degrading that "fat")
And how about the midgits (no - "vertically challenged" is more degrading that "midgit"), little people, tall people, skinny people (think Calista Flockheart/Ally MacBeal)? Are they just supposed to be left in the gutter, crying about their lack of personalization?
Following that line of thought, would it be possible to make a "custumizable" model, where you would enter height and three or four circumfrences [ie. shoulder, armpits, breasts (mostly for women, but some men have breasts - look at Arnold!), under breasts, belly, hips, middle of thighs - okay, that's more than four]?
I swear, I just came up with that idea.

Thing with sexy women models (ones from polygons), they are more eyecandy then "normal" women models (and 2d artists usually make better textures for first ones.....), but its matter of personal preferences..
I think Poser can take normal male/female object and rearange its proportions, but without proper skeletal animation support you would need to setup animations for each different model....

Hmm its an interesting idea nonetheless.... I wonder if you could scale the model appropiately in each 3ds frame... It might casue some strange texture problems thouhg...

well ... don't fat/short/skinny/tall people have those problems with clothes? I know I have problem finding clothes that fit properly.
Evil - I know it, but I can't help myself:
Imagine that the fat lady is trying to put on the midgit's pants/textures ... lol ...
Ripped clothes in SS ... I'm all for having a Sarah Michelle Gellar model trying on a midgits spandex catsuit ...

Hey peeps, I'm female and I was suprised the game had no female models either... I mean, I can understand it in the single player game (since the game has its main character already, and I bet making a whole new set of voices would be too much to do, etc)..
But in Co-op or DM, it'd be cool if I could play a female heh.. Using Green Garry just doesnt fit me at all ;p
I hope some female models come out soon.. kind of like Rumiko or Abbey from UT.
Anyway, is there any way to convert models between games? That would be cool..
See ya.
P.S. : I'm 21, and never had a boyfriend (or a date) and got into games all by myself ;p And no, I'm not Quasimodo. I've been playing games since my commodore 64 and on untill now. So these generalizations dont always hold true.
