I have all but one secret in the second level. Will someone
please help?

* secret wall on right side of temple
* secret wall in frog room
* secret armor on pedestal
* secret health under stairs
* secret on roof

secret area, where you found the secret on the right side of the temple, to the right of that building on the other side of the sand dune, there is a secret area, you can get there by having the bull knock you into it.

hehe....before Dune...none of a secret need to use bull attack or rocket jump to find or complete.
But Dune is the first level that need rj to reach a secret.

I didn't have a bull on level 2.  I had to "rocket jump"
Maybe its cause I'm a wussy and only playing on normal.
But the secret you haven;t found is the one in the first open area.  Near the entrance to the 1st inside area (the one with the secret panel to the harpees) on the same side as you use to get to the harpy secret--blast yourself up near the tree--there is a secret up there--practice w/ rocket launcher--you have to get it just right.  If there is an easier way I am not aware of it

xxzen
03-27-2001, 10:57 AM
well then how did you get them without Bull or Rocket Jump (used bull for 2 in 2nd level), ..... don't leave us hanging.......

I should clarify--I didn;t have a bull on the part where the secret in question is located (begining of level). *At the end of the level you can get on the roof by clibimg up the left hand side (jumping here helps as well) as you face the entrance to the tomb. *But the secret in the 1st open area (near the harpy secret) I had to use the rocket launcher--maybe I am forgetting there was a werebull there but I am pretty sure the only one on level 2 was at the end near the tomb entrance.

I tried to get back to that area, but didn't think to
rocket jump. Thanks dudes.

Oh No
03-27-2001, 12:18 PM
There was one bull in that area. It comes out relatively early, when you get one of those big boulders to fall. I didn't know about the secret area before I killed the bull, but jumping, I could see some stuff over the dune. So, I used rocket jump to get there. Wasn't too hard.

Seriously
03-27-2001, 12:35 PM
How are you all using the rocket in the second level?  Does it become available to us in Level 1.  I can't find the rocket that early in the game...

TheBeagle
03-27-2001, 12:41 PM
first level, up the ramp from start, turn right, jump on pillar, jump on wall, on rooftop below wall.

Magnum

Apparently then you can get to it from both open areas.
Is this correct?

03-27-2001, 07:28 PM
rocket jump? how do you rocket jump?
haven't fingered that one out yet.

Scampie
03-27-2001, 08:51 PM
You rocket jump by pointing the rocket launcher downwards and jumping while you shoot.

Wee!

You don't have to RJ to get to the secret...that'd mean people playing in tourist/easy mode couldn't get it, and from what I've seen, all of them are accessible on every difficulty :)

Just run at the dirt wall, about 1/3 of the way to the other secret, and jump...try it a few times, it is possible.

Magnum
03-27-2001, 10:11 PM
whats this--rocket launcher not availabvle in easy/tourist or not strong enough to bounce you around.

Anyway tryed to figure out how to get there on my own w/o being pushed and like the man says jumping about 1/3 way up to the harpy room works--takes a bit of trial and error.  Still haven;t figured out how to get a were bull to bounce me there from the 2nd open area

Ok, where is the secret armor on pedestal???

I've looked and looked but can't find it...

Thanks!

Digital Knight
03-28-2001, 02:53 AM
The armor isn't on a pedestal--it's on the top of one side of the door that leads out of the room where you first encounter the marsh hoppers (frogs from hell).  Once inside that room (after clearing it), if you're facing the door you came in through, there is a bounce pad to the right of the pillar on the right side of the door.  The armor is on top the pillar on the left side of the door (again, if you're facing the door from the frog room).

Secret in frog room is wall panel just to your right as you enter the room. Just push on wall and it will move away to reveal gatling gun.

I was in the Sacred Gardens (or is it Yards?)....anyways, after the intial fighting I entered an outdoor corridor in which there is a single health pill straight forward from the entrance...if you pick up the pill, a tiny little green monster who looks identical to the Jolly Green Giant who throws those green spitballs at you....he says something like "don't hurt me"....So I said "then you shouldn't be here"....sooooo, I ended up carving him with my knife and then all hell broke loose....Funny thing though, when I went close to him to get a closer look, he took a swing at me and knocked some of my health off....

I realize most of you have already seen this, but does anyone know exactly what was said?....I know once I killed the little fella then another voice uttered something....

Are you asking what Pinky is, Stiben?  He's in Sacred Yards, the second secret level.  Basically a little green guy who talks, and throws those green homing missiles at you.  As an added bonus, a voice says, "You killed Pinky!" when you kill him.

SuperTech
04-10-2001, 07:10 PM
An Easter Egg in the Sacred Yards map. A little Green Reptiloid smaller than one of the frogs appears and says do not kill me. If you kill or step on him it says. "OMG they killed pinky" all in a voice that can best be described as Hal-9000. =)

Well, I less 'stepped' on him and more 'ran screaming at him, leapt through the air, and landed both sneakers first on his tiny green skull'.

Of course, that just made the 'oh my god' sound funnier.. I nearly jumped out of my chair when about three seconds after pinky died, his big brother turned up right in front of me!

Magnum - what they mean about not rocket jumping on tourist/easy is just that - you can't rocket jump on those difficulties because splash damage is disabled.  The rocket launcher is available in those difficulty levels just like all of the others.

Guys,

*I've made my first monster for Serious Sam, but adding to the Headman class (yeah I know, not particularly difficult, but there you go). *For fairly obvious reasons, I can't redistribute the monsters in the basic game, but I'd like to have both the basic monsters and my custom additional monsters working at the same time.
*So finally, to the point: *do I need to have the original monsters in a mod DLL to have them available in a mod game? *Is there a way of modifying the monster spawn code to spawn multiple monsters per "standard" spawn point in the original maps (so that the standard maps can spawn my custom monsters in my mod without needing customised maps)? Do we even have access to monster spawn code....
*Finally, are there any FAQs I've obviously missed?

Thanks in advance!

Alen Ladavac
05-22-2001, 06:56 AM
Well why not changing the original monster's behavior to be your monsters, and they will spawn in the original maps, instead of the original monsters.

Alen

* *This is basically what I did to start with (to ensure that the new monster did what I expected it to without crashing the game or doing anything silly). *However, what I want to do is to *add* extra new monsters. *Having created a headman monster with a walkers missile launcher, I'd like to drop some of them in near groups of rocketeers for a bit of heavy support :) (hopefully up the front so that they don't shoot the Rocketeers in the back - I decided to make them able to blow each other up...)*
* *Worst case scenario, I have to copy and edit all the standard maps to add all my extra monsters in a useful/interesting way, however I wouldn't be able to redistribute them. *As these were originally for my LAN group, this may not be a big deal anyway.....
* *The more monsters (and the more monster variations), the better I say :)

Bwian
05-23-2001, 12:16 AM
I highly doubt that you would be able to spawn the new monsters without editing whatever world file that you are playing so that they are specified in the world.

Jwh
05-23-2001, 01:59 AM
If you don't want to change the levels you could randomize a little and make some of the headmen get rockets - you could even make this part of the difficulty setting and on serious 75 or 80 percent of the headmen would spawn with rockets. I don't know how this would work not having looked at the code but it seems like a simple way to add new guys to me.

Mrs Muirs Goat
05-24-2001, 02:20 AM
I come from a UT coding background, in which replacing spawned objects at map start time is no big deal. *I guess I was hoping that would be possible here too.
Jwh - yeah, I could do that, but it's not exactly what I had in mind, which was additional monsters. By changing all the basic monsters in this fashion, the code would get very messy indeed.
Looks like custom maps are the only way for me to go. *Oh well....

BirddoG

options -> player and controls -> customize controls -> keyboard setup (or sumthing similar, at work, sue me)
there is a list of every command in the game

if that dosnt help then ummm, (and i say this in the nicest possible way) your hopeless :)

Cacodemon Leader
05-25-2001, 11:55 AM
Usually the firing key is the left mouse button by default.  Of course, if you are lucky to have one of those mice that has the scrolling wheel, you can change your weapons more easily than an ordinary mouse.

Smithboy
05-25-2001, 01:44 PM
If you go to options, players and controls, controls, then you look on the left side of the screen and you can move the page up or down. The fire button is down somewhat I think.

Yup, try reinstalling... I've had Sam ignore mouse buttons twice. In menus the button worked, but if you had something bound to it in game or tried to rebind it in menu, Sam didn't register it. On both times I've reinstalled the game and it has begun working then.

Hey question, for all you newbies. How come you never try reading the manual first and then use it for a coaster. Pages 13, 14 and 15 are about the controls and then page 20 has the game's Tech Support phone number and email address and then this board also has a Technical Section which is for asking this type of question in also.

INTRUDER

Earthling
05-27-2001, 01:20 PM
Intruder: Uh... you seem pretty hostile. There is only one and half pages about controls in the euro manual, and it seemed that the guy had configured it correctly, but the game ignored his mouse buttons.

You're right about posting to the Tech forums instead of General forums though.

Also, I don't really think that Take 2's tech support even knows that a game named Serious Sam exists... But I could be (and probably am) wrong.

So, no offense to you or anyone, just pointing out that you could've made your a bit less harsh.

you poor thing. that's so sad =(

Lupo
06-14-2001, 12:43 PM
I didn't get that from what jayburner said Earthling. What I read it as is that he needs to go to the customise buttons link that appears to be a header. You know over the top and offset of the settings in custom controls in the menu's. Customise buttons looks like it's the title and NOT a link. I could be wrong on this, but that's how I read his topic. My clue to thinking this is his name, jayburner. I overlooked alot of things when I was a jay burner.

What turned green? Can you explain a little bit more what happend to you? What tutorial did you follow and what have you done? I would need more info to help you ....

Michael Harris
09-18-2001, 07:18 AM
When you say that it is green, even in the game, do you mean even when you go into test mode in the editor.....or even when you exit the editor and play the world from the game itself?  If this is happening just in test mode within the editor, the the fix likely is......in the immortal words of Hoard...... "For the love of God, man! Use the [6] button!"   (to switch to a rendering mode that doesn't show editing stuff during play).

If it is happening in the game itself, if you wish, e-mail it to me and I'll take a look.

Perhaps before you do that, check out the following, in whatever order works best for you:
- the gravity tutorial on the Serious Editing site
(see links page here on this site for link to there)
- the gravity tutorials that shipped with the game
 (see c:\program files\croteam\serious sam\help\extras\michaelharris\gravityandsectoring)
and the corresponding example worlds in the
Tutorials section of the editor's virtual tree
- the two following recent postings/threads here in this
 forum:
How Do I Set Up A ForceField
   Forcefield Tutorial (plain text)
although they focus on the forcefield option of
gravitymarkers, they touch on the basics of setting
up a gravitymarker (though because of their focus
on forcefield, they don't touch on changing the
orientation and/or type of the gravitymarker,
which you will most likely wish to do,
while likely not wanting to mess with the forcefield)
