ok, besides having to first get hold of the game, what would i need to make a serious rally mod??
levels are easy...models are easy (relatively), car physics i would cheat on and just use low friction and the whole physics side of it would suck and youd all hate me for it, but i dont care. if i was to use AI it'd be a complete bastard so i wont even think about it for now. but basically what i'm asking is, considering ive never really done much in the way of mod making, would it be realitivey easy to make a car-like object that more or less "drives" around something that looks like a race track??
no, im not striving for mediocrity here, its just where i'd start...and no, i wouldnt release it till it was good either.
you could race through cities and stuff, and get lost and get angry and send death threats to me, and wonder why youre playing such a mediocre title, and go play need for speed.
i guess its just something i wanna do :)

I dunno, I could see this being a lot of fun! You could have very complex cities, TONS of terrain to go on (off road maps!), and Serious Engine has a very good physics implementaion (would have to, with multigrav support). Not to mention LOD for many numbers of cars at one time racing.
I wanna play it already :)

Anyone like the possibility of F-Zero X style racing in a racing mod for Sam? Since it has nice easy-to-create complex gravity types, you could have some wild track designs. :)

AH! I forgot about that!
Sometimes makes me want to work on 3 mods at once, ya know? :)

thatd possibly be cooler if i knew what the hell f zero-x was.
oh yeah, and the cars will have guns, (of course)
what the hell, when i get the game, im going to do it anyway, no mater what anyone else is doing. just for fun, and just for the practice of it.

F-Zero X is a fast-paced futuristic racing game for N64. Some tracks were cylinders that you raced on the inside of (ie, trough the center of), with gravity pushing outward, and others, where you rode on the outside, and could fly off the track if you went to fast around a dip in the track. Very cool, very fast. :)
Actually, now that I think of it, it had a very good way of rendering lots of models on one screen as well. :)

sounds kewl, this wont be like that, this'll be more like endurance racing, LONG long laps while you do things like jump over whole sphinxes and stuff and race 50 other cars. hopefully. eventually.
oh and bwian, is your full name Bwian of Nazaweth??

of course it SOUNDS really cool, anyone can have good ideas, its putting them into practice thats the difficult part. at first its literally going to be me running around a "track" just looking like a car...and i'll build it up from there. im gonna enjoy myself immensely.
i keep having all these cool ideas like having croteam in a big double decker bus as one of your oppenents and theyre all leaning out of the windows shooting you and stuff, but then i gotta remember that theres no way in hell i could actually implement that, so i gotta think back to how its really gonna be.,..a guy running round and round in a desert.
<sigh> its gonna be a long road (literally).
still, if we all share ideas and stuff, itll make it a whole lot easier on all of us...

On the subject of racing:
i would love to see 'Slide!' for Quake 1 remade for some engine, I think it would be especialy good for the Serious engine.. If you dont know what Slide! Quake is, check out http://singe.telefragged.com/slide/
