Im curious about this too, anyone know how to alter the look of the menu system when you change mods?
My Edit: ok, found in the coding forum that this is not possible, but i hear its possible to remove some options within the menu, cant find any script files anywhere that reflect this.. anyone?

I think I'll write a little article soon about all I know of mod making, including the menu. Why not start now, I guess?
Ok so far you can change the title, the thumbnail, the mouse, the background (though right now it will always move like that and look green), the godgames logo, the croteam logo, the gamespy logo, the dotted lines (has to be green right now), and the credits screen.
They are all pictures, except the credits screen is a text file in the data directory.
Look in textures/logo and textures/general for these files. Go into the editor and export them to targas, and play around with them. When you have them the way you like, you can import them again in the editor by creating a new regular texture. Some of these pictures can be different sizes, like the mouse pointer and maybe the dotted lines and the moving clouds, but not the thumbnail and the title. These ones that can be different sizes seem to be affected by the sizing of the texture when you convert it in the editor.
Also you can edit the letters in the menu but not the font or colour. This will be changed in a later patch.
Soon with another patch you will be able to change the background around. For now I recommend you make the background and the dotted lines all black.
So for the main title, it has to be 2 256x64 .tex files in the textures/logo directory. They have to be called sam_menu256a.tex and sam_menu256b.tex.
I recommend you take a look at seriously warped and see how they did a lot of stuff.
If you got some questions or comments, my icq, aim, and e-mail are up there in my profile.
