Is anybody making a Doom mod?

No one in the current moment I think. A guy at the old forum had an excellent idea for a DooM mod though. I'd love to see that one come to life some day!

To convert the maps from the original doom to the Serious engine would be illegal though. Some people started to do that with Duke 3d and were stopped.

DooM3 > Serious Sam
Serious Sam > everything else for the moment
but when DooM3 gets here, it's no contest

WRONG, Caid.
Doom 3 will not go back to the Doom style of gameplay.  They're shooting more for a first-person scary style with only a few models at a time.  Looking at the Doom demonstration movies, do you really think an engine with those graphics will have anywhere near the number of monsters as Serious Sam?

In interviews, people from id software have said that this will be more story-driven than the other games.  They're shooting more for Half-life type gameplay than they are for the oldschool Doom style.  At this point, they don't even know if Doom 3 will include multiplayer!  They said it's "completely up in the air".  Look around at dailyradar.com, do a search for Doom.  You'll find the interview and see what I'm talking about.

Sam is the most Doomlike game since Doom, so I think it'd be a real shame if we never see any more Doomlike monsters/guns.

My mod damnation was based on Doom 2 being played on cooperative nightmare mode (if you havent done it your missing out:) Read the thread on damnation for more info about it.
