Well the laser gun weap from SS looks and sonds like the Millenuim Falcon's guns anyways so it's a start. :)

Saber shouldn't be too difficult, just powering up the knife very slightly and skinning it.

I'll bet you could have some damn cool AT-ST, AT-PT, and AT-AT walker models.  Hell, there's already walkers that shoot lasers, you wouldn't even have to write new behavior.  Just modify it so they walk the right speed and change the gun positions and color of the laser etc.  And you could create a great looking Endor Moon Forest for them to wreak havoc in, with a shield generator to destroy.  Just some ideas to throw around.  :)

So yall think its a good idea to have a Star Wars mod?

It's a great idea, but every Star Wars mod I've ever seen got killed by Lucasfilm/Lucasarts.  :(

actually, there is one Star wars mod (http://swtc.telefragged.com) that made it... :)

I knew that would happen :(.

Me and some freinds were thinking about making a Star Wars mod for Half Life (Before SS came out), but we decided not too because we would probably get sued by Lucasarts/Lucasfilms.  I dont get companies like that.  Its just fans of Star Wars that love the movies sooo much that they want to kind of make their own game?  Well, I guess there is one thing.  They could get mad that people would be using HL or SS or what ever to make a Star Wars mod, instead of buying their games. Sooo, less money for them.

jeez.....

There hasn't been a good star wars game since X-wing Alliance ages back. Lucasarts have been riding high on a tidal wave of stupid consumers and phantom menace hype for far too long. I'm beginning to lose faith in lucasarts as a company altogether.

Plus, their mad, rabid law division is just evil.

I haven't played a Star Wars game since TIE Fighter, which in my book is the supreme Star Wars game.  I wish it would run on Win2k, and that I had a joystick to play it with.

Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II was my favorite Lucas Arts game.  Then they got my hopes up when they started working on Obi~Wan.  Then they cancelled it!!!  AAAAHHHH!!!

Anyone keeping up on Star Wars Galaxies?  The last playable race are freaking Gungans... GOD I hate them... I can't play it anymore, I wanted to play it.  Gungans will just ruin it for me.  I'll see someone playing as one, I will then freak out.

Actually I planned to lead the Star Wars mod that Viper is speaking of.  I already plan to create a starwars mod for SS.  And Lucasarts can go to hell, the can go to hell and die!!!  If your interested in helping me get this thing off its feet then email me.  Indy85@msn.com

The gungan thing was an april fools joke. Pity, I though that apart from Jar-Jar the gungans were a race of tough amphibious warriors! Ideal for those watery planets =)

The REAL 8th race is darth mauls race - I forget the name of it, but they're nasty.

StoneWolf, I highly suggest you contact Lucasarts about making your Star Wars mod.  Describe to them in some detail what kind of a game you plan to create (are you going to wander around on Endor fighting AT walkers?  are you going to battle the droid armies of the trade federation with only your lightsaber and some gungan sidekicks?  be specific), and make it sound like you actually care about the legality issues.  Let them know you're willing to do some things differently if required and that you're willing to give them a good look at your mod before it's released.  You might be pleasantly surprised.  You might also be disappointed, but if you don't contact them then they'll most certainly find out about you and put an end to your mod.  If someone took concepts from a legacy you created and made a game without telling you, you'd want to shut them down too.  If they contacted you first, and asked you for permission, you might be willing to help them out.  Give it a shot.

This goes for all mod groups out there who might have copyright issues to deal with when creating their mod.  Talk to the maker.

Maybe George Lucas would be so interested he would write-up a story for the mod :)

Maybe I will do that.  Though I do know of several Star Wars modifications for other games that did ok without lucasarts consent.  Anyhow thanks alot and I will contact them.  (If they say no I am gonna be pissed and chances are I will kick your ass for crashing my party :) j/k)

Well there was a Star Wars TC for star craft... Open Rebellion was what it was called...  Can't remember where it was hosted.  I thin it was at camelot systems.  But for some reason I'm not authorized to view the page =D  Yeah but it sounds cool.

Alright people.  I contacted Lucasarts and all they said was the read the LEC License.  It states that I cannot use any files from any existing Star Wars Program.  Which is not a problem.  If your interested in helping me out then email me.

I was following the development of a mod for q3 called "Wing of alliance " http://www.planetquake.com/swq3/.
They were in obligation to change all the name of their ship cuz, for example, Tie Fighter is a copyright name. So be sure to don't copy any Star Wars name and all would be fine.

So.. Right - you're allowed to use the star wars universe in it entirety, except for anything in it.

Y'wha????

Stone Wolf is right. If you do not use existing game objects
e.g. take the files for jar-jar from EP1 The Phantom Meance
and made him the  beheaded guys you would be fine basicly start from scratch then it would not be copyright I mean I would make a star Wars Mod If I knew how (this is to hint on that if any one can make mods for SS can they e-mail me at haddond_swadelands@hotmail.com) thx  if you do

Lucasarts shouldn't have any problem with folks making a mod, and likely won't.  Look at all the SW fan films on the net.

Max Damage

Yes, but keep in mind that while lucasarts shouldn't have a problem with people making fan mods, they do. Almost every star wars mod ever has been 'foxed' by them.

Look at it from LucasArts POV. They make computer games and say they wanted to create Dark Forces 3 or some other FPS in the Star Wars Universe. They don't want people to say, "Why buy a 50 dollar game when I can get a mod for a game I already have which is almost as good?" They don't want to lose money on something they already own the intellectual rights to.

Ok..I contacted those Lucasarts people again.  IT IS OK!!!  As long as we do not use existing material.  If we were to create our own storyline, sounds, models, etc...  No Prob.
