I was wondering if someone could explain to me step by step how to take pictures(I can make them .bmp, .jpg, .tex, .tga, or .pcx) and import them to make them usable in the editor.
Thanks in advance.

Save them as tga with a 2^n*2^m dimension somewhere in SS dir, then start editor, right click in virtual tree->create and add texture. Browse your texture, press ok, done.

How can I resize the pictures to that dimension?

With an Image Editing program like IrfanView or Paint shop pro?

If you want to take screenshots of your level, there is a camera tool somewhere on the toolbars of the editor. Just in case you didn't know. :)

Whoops, duh. I'll try that.

Save them as tga with a 2^n*2^m dimension somewhere in SS dir, then start editor, right click in virtual tree->create and add texture. Browse your texture, press ok, done.
I selected the texture, saved as a .tga in the SS directory and it is a 64 by 64 pic which should register as a 4 by 4, and when I tried to add it, it said that it is an unsupported format.
I also tried inserting a texture saved as a .tex using the "insert item" option which worked, but the colors are messed up.

Are you sure you used "create and add texture"?
Is the picture really a tga file, or just a renamed jpg or bmp?

Yes, I used the create and add texture.
Actually, the texture is a Half-Life texture, which I used the Wally program to see the individual textures from the .wad files. I then saved it as a .tga file in my SS directory.
I am making this map for myself for fun, and am not going to use the textures in any of my distributed maps.
Edit: I managed to get one in using the "create and add texture" option by saving it as a .pcx file instead of a .tga, but the color quality is still like crap and messed up.
Edit (again): Scratch that- I FINALLY got it in clear. I just had to press "create mipmaps" and it worked. I should be fine for now.
Thanks for your time! :D

All this crap was caused by 16bit HL texture. If you resaved it as 24bit one, it would be ok.
