hey...I decided to show pics of my latest map here.......I've never released any maps before, but if I get a good enough reply to these few screen shots then I am thinkinng I will release this one.  Well, what do you think?




Questions/Comments/Constructive Criticism/Flames/Cookies/Anything?  (Actually, no flames)

I think it's a bit too bright.

Very nice! I told you that you would improve a lot if you kept going at it!
One little bit of critisism, the second picture is a bit too bright. Try adding some neat shadow work in there.

ok I'll work on the lighting.....thats always been my bad point, the lighting aalways messes me up.

dont make the water at the same height as the floor. when you shoot the water, the ripples will bleed over to the floor.

so you plan on the water to do nothing when you shoot it?

BTW, i think that pool room would kick mucho asso with some directional lighting. :)

lots of annoying beheadeds? hooray!

looks good viper. dont want to say anything redundant, and those points were very good ones.

yeah, turn the polies in that room to directional and directional ambient and that would kick ass! i wish i was young again, and had time to map :(

but looks good! continue with this.

Tip for getting better lighting... smaller lights, with less color value (less intensity). Move them closer to the floor, but not so close that you see the 'spots' where they're located.

Semi-random placement looks better than an even grid as well.

Oh god. That looks just like my old maps. But much better. The thing with the roofs, I did EXACTLY that in every single map.

to get the water to ripple select the poly that would be the surface of the water and on the polygon tab of the tools window you will see surface ... change it from standard to water. tada... ripples.

viper, just a suggestion... take away the knife when the player stars. i played through some levels that had only beheadeds, gnaars, and the occasional kleers with only wo pistols, and it was ALOT more fun than using the knife. if you make the shotgun the highest weapon, and use simple enemies, that would be cool.

well, Sam only finds a single barrel shotgun so far.....and there are plenty of each enemies (that wouldnt be too hard to get with the single barrel shotgun)  There are plenty of gnaars, beheadeds, and kleers in so far.

how are you going to make this uhh work i guess would be the right way to put it... what is the plan of attack? Cause most of the SP maps ive seen just throw about 99 enemies at you of the same type at the same time when you have no ammo. one level i downloaded had some really cool things in it ... like a pulsating icbm stuck in the sand and a little sphere that followed you around circling overhead... but the enemies were like 99 kleer when you have 100 shots of laser ammo. You get the idea... make sure you dont just throw tons of guys at the user unless hes got an assload of ammo or a few cannonballs.

Shinobi:  I know how you feel, and thats why its not going to be like that in my map.  Your gonna have all the ammo you need for most of the time.

heh, it wont be too easy, I promise :).....well, maybe on tourist mode....but it will be hard.  I plan on having some puzzles/traps in it too.

(Preview: One of these traps would be you going down a hallway....then all of a sudden the walls start moving in to the middle.  The end of the hallway is far away, so you have to run out before it squishes you, all the while fighting some enemies blocking your path)

ok, I got some updated shots.

Oh yeah, some of the rooms look like the dont have light sources.  There will be some when the map is finished, I promise :)

oh yeah, return to karnak was the old name for the map, but after I realized it was turning out to look...uh...not karnakish (lol) I decided to change the name, thats why I have "Unnamed" as the thread and things.  I still need a name, anyone got any ideas?

Looking good keep it up and you'll get better.:) *

A little tip, if you don't know yet, if your useing a croteam skybox. *Select the light entity in it. *Then goto the entity proterties for it. *Pull down the menu and look for "Lens flare only" and make sure the check box for it is unchecked. *Once its unchecked the "sun" will work, not sure why croteam has that checked for all of them, and will make the room with the pool look really cool. :) *Unless you did that already.
