The storyline of this map will be that you have just fought mental, and won, but with his last strength he flung you into the core of Sirius (the planet?) ... so, your objective is to get out. You will find an ancient underground city made out of precious metals ... but the first part is just a salt cavern. Right now all the 'cave' polygons (~1600) are detailed (much faster) ... but I'm trying to find a way to have the player as a parent to an occluding sphere. I get from 50-90 FPS in the level currently on an Athlon 1035 MHz with a GeForce2 GTS. Here are some pictures:

88 FPS - in game

~70 FPS - in SeriousEditor
Thank you, TaZeR[xc], for helping me with the haze and other things.
Again, if anyone knows how to make the player a parent for an entity, please let me know.

Looking really nice!
Haze always makes for nice surprise attacks by fast enemies (Werebulls, Reptilioid Missiles)

As much as I hate to say it, I doubt an occluding sphere is going to work. Additionally, you would have to split your sectors into many many sectors that is the radius in size or smaller, and have to figure out a way of taking it off of the player when you need to, and making sure every player gets one when they respawn. Duplication of entities doesn't seem to be possible except in mod code.
I agree that I'm not seeing much in this picture. It looks like a terrain brush with other brushes, split polygons, and extruded using vertex mode. I'm sure it was painstaking, but it doesn't seem to me like a very memorable, or pleasureable journey in Sam's world. It is extremely hard to fight in fog that dense, and in a world so confined at the same time.
Basically, I'm not particularly impressed, as it's not very beautiful, and I don't see the gameplay either. However, I am only judging on a few screenshots, which could comprise jsut a short walk for Sam before going into some other area. That's the crux of the matter. A scene like the one shown needs more added to it, and I hope it is there in the final product.

The haze is quite thick, but the two screenshots you posted look very promising- tight spaces are always a nice scene for a fight :) I'm waiting to see the main part of the map.
