What are the GRO files in the main Serious Sam directory? Are they just like PAK files for Half-Life?
The GRO files are actually ZIP files and work in a similar manner to PAK files in Half-Life i.e. allows you to gather together data files into the one file. To get access to the contents of these files do the following:
- Rename the GRO file to a ZIP file e.g. 1_00.gro to 1_00.zip
- Open up the ZIP file in Winzip
- Extract the contents to the base directory of Serious Sam e.g. c:\Program Files\Croteam\Serious Sam\, making sure to select the option that preserves the directory structure of the ZIP file.
You will then be able to access, modify and replace all the various data files used by the game e.g. WAV files, MP3 files etc.
