Nice idea, I have both of those maps (Alpine Mists II and Portals). I might as well join, but unfortunately I probadly can't be there on friday due to some repairs in my room
But I'll try to join if I can.
In hopes of extending the fun to be had with the Serious Sam. I hope to organize a weekly game of SSFE/SE/SS2 co-op/DM with custom maps or original maps played with MODs and other fun stuff.
Specifics
The difficulty setting will always be set at Serious. Expect other fun stuff to be thrown in like playing the maps with a certain weapon only, friendly fire etc.
The server would be invisible to the internet and the IP address will be given to participants a few minutes before the game starts.
Rules
Thanks to what I've seen in the recent sessions, I have some rules to add.
- Absolutely NO rushing. It may be fun for you to blaze through a level, but you're ruining it for those left behind by depriving the other players of opportunities to do battle, or by leaving them behind to clean up. It also shortens the play time of the map by a considerable amount and that's not good.
- Wait for the others. Being left behind is no fun so please wait for the others to catch up.
- Listen to the others' directives. You should especially listen to the host when they tell you something you should stop doing.
- Have fun and don't be a wet towel. I want this to be a fun thing, so please don't drag others down if for some reason, you feel down.
- Unless mentioned otherwise, all server raids will be carried out with a knife.
- Be responsible. Practice safe teabagging.![]()
If you disregard the rules you will be removed from the game session, and you will get a demerit. Two demerits and you will be labelled a persona no grata. I hope that I don't have to deal with such problems anymore, and I trust you guys to follow these rules.
Hosting
I *can* host the SS1 games, but it is not recommended because I live halfway around the world from most of you guys and that might drastically increase the latency. So I'll be hosting only as a last resort if nobody else offers to host a game.![]()
For the SS2 games, FW will most likely do the hosting.
Time
Unless decided on otherwise, the games will be held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with starting times of anywhere between 1800-2200 GMT time.
SSSE games will be held on Fridays, SS2 Games will be held on Saturdays and SSFE games will be held on Sundays.
Host announce
When the game starts, the IP will be posted in this thread for those who aren't able to make it or those who arrived too late for the beginning of the map. Check the latest posts in this thread for updates concerning the IP and hosting as the game progresses.
Server raids work a bit differently here. One person, designated a scouter, would scour the server list looking for a DM server that has plenty of people playing, but with enough room to accomodate as many possible participants as possible. Once done, the IP address will be announced in the thread and the channel.
Raids across multiple servers is possible, but those who participated in other servers must report who raided the other servers and what server(s) they raided.
IRC organization and Preparation
If this thing is sucessful and grows into something big, I might start a channel for it. For now, the #seriously channel will suffice. Although a full IRC client pointing at the channel is much more recommended.
Parse Error SE compatibility list & recommended settings.

I may join but I'm not sure
Although I'm probadly pointing out the obvious, I think host should be the person with highest upload/download and the most stable connection. My connection is pretty standard, 2 MB download, 512 kbps upload. Quality of service is 99% according to MySpeedPC.
But hopefully SS1 has a better netcode anyway so it doesn't matter so much. I could host the game if no one else wishes to do so. (I hope there are more volunteers though *cough* *cough*)
According to some online test my measured upload speed is 720 kbps.

If I can get my video card working so that it won't overheat, I will try to join in on tomorrow's game. Gonna work on it tonight, hoping some new thermal paste will help the problem.
My Showcase Thread !!!
• Haunted Palace (custom map) - a stunning Serious Sam 2 experience!
• Serious Sam SE Music Video (High Quality)
New projects!
• Get serious! (TBD) - a series of action/platforming/puzzle custom maps for Serious Engine 3, split in episodes, each released every month!
But do take his location into account, he lives in China, so it would lag anyway. I think we should let Disconnector host the game (good location, good connection...).
FYI; I think I'll be able to participate in today's game afterall.![]()
Me too!

I think it does, because SS2 uses more or less the same amount...50 kbps per client.

Yeah, it is 6PM here now.
If it is hosted at 18:00 GMT, then it will be like this:

18:00 GMT sounds fine to me. Of course, we'd need to host it earlier for you guys though![]()
Gametime is coming in at least 8 hours. The reason that I say at least is because I want to allow a good time window for final preparations and late arrivals.
So if you haven't already, download, install and test-run Alpine Mists II for SE now to make sure it all works.
PS : In the future, feel free to discuss which custom maps on SSFE/SE you would like to play next, as well as other suggestions with the game settings like extra enemy strength, friendly fire, respawn invulnerability, ammo and weapon handicap like knives only etc.

I'm coming in, just gotta download the mappack (I not long installed SS1 on my new computer)
Edit: I can't find the server, are you sure it's 6:00pm GMT start time?

It hasn't started yet. People thought I'd host the game, but unfortunately none of the servers I create show up in the servers list (even though they're not invisible). Hell, I don't even use a firewall.
In the meantime join the IRC (channel: #Seriously) to find out more. I think it's starting in about 15 mins...
Yeah, everyone who is in this, join the IRC channel. Like I said, the servers are going to be invisible, so you'll need the IP of the host, which will be identified and announced in the final preparations in IRC.
I don't have IRC so somebody PM it to me (The IP address I mean)
Couldn't the IP be posted here as well? (You know, for those folks who can't get the IRC working...which is unlikely)
EDIT:
@ Deepblue- You can use the JavaApplet to join, that's how I got in (and I've never used the live chat feature before on seriously). Just type in your name, choose your location and bang- you're in the chicken pen!![]()
