Hm, you always manage to give a comment that i'm not sure if i should thank you or what.

Though, gotta admit, i'm not fan of those either, to be honest....

So, how much time does it take to draw this ? Do you use some special hardware ?

Well, it depands. It wouldn't take long at all, but you have to understand that this is pretty much my first drawing that i didn't use any reference at all, and first drawing that may actually get finished. In other words, i'm pretty much just starting with this, so it takes me more time because i screw up perspective and than have to repaint and repair some stuff, same with colors, etc.
I started this one maybe one week ago iirc, but, i didn't work entire days on it. Maybe if i worked 10 hours in total on it, but hard to tell, since i usually do something else to (like watching Castle ) while i paint.

HW? Well, i do use Wacom Bamboo tablet, the cheapest one i could got at the time (80€ iirc), but does the job pretty well. Other then that, nothing fancy, just photoshop and few brushes i found around the net, but nothing fancy.

That looks fantastic, man. Sure you're just starting out, but looking at that painting, it's clear you already have a strong hold on the basics. To be honest, I'm pretty jealous. I've always wanted to learn digital painting. I tried it out a couple times, but never came up with anything even close to that.

Are you using any learning resources? I'm going to try painting again eventually, so if you're using any particularly helpful tutorials or the like, I'd love to see them.

Uf, i watch tons of stuff.

First, i watch a lot of feng zhu (free) tutorials:
http://www.fengzhudesign.com/tutorials.htm

(do note, he has 55, not 53 vids, just look around youtube).
I especially recomand episodes 31 and 40 if you are into environments.

Feng has various techniques, and is really worthy watching.

I also bought this book:
http://www.visionafar.com/index.php?page=Book

Love that book to be honest, many, many usefull tips.

Then i got myself some books and vids regarding color theory, lighting and stuff.
I think Gnomon Workshop has quite few vids on this theme, but it's quite expensive.

But do not also that i'm constantly screw up stuff and fix it, even as we speak, i'm starting new painting, and i'm already having quite some problems with perspective and compositions. Though at this early stage, it's easy to fix it.

Also, tnx!

Also, started with he desert environment. This will be mix if desert / canyon environment, with scifi structures. Idea here is, that you have envo like those american deserts, but natives "indians" are still alive and kicking, and have technologically advance a lot, but still remained their "conenction" with the environment, wich i will try to represent the way they merge this desert envo with the human structures...

Here's a small progress on the Temple (on the left). It's gonna be focal point of this image.

Yeah, but that's to be expected when you're starting out. The important thing is to be able to spot the problems and fix them. Being able to do it right the first time is something that comes with practice. Thanks for the resources, by the way. That book is only $14 on Amazon.. I might pick it up.

I love the temple's design in the new painting. Can't wait to see progress on that!

Well, i totaly didn't like overall composition, so i'm starting to change it.
The gray thing in the background is suppose to be city.

It's the sandy floor, I can't really say that it looks as if it's horizontal and the cliffs vertical, I think the rivers are the main culprit for that, try to squish them a bit, it might work.

Hm, ok. Would you call this improvement? I think it's a bit better, but still needs quite a lot of tweaking:

Oooh, the new sky helps a lot. It feels like a mixture of Artus from Jedi Outcast and Halo from, well... Halo.

Lookin' good! Curious to see how it turns out.

I'll make a small break from those two envos, to try to do some study. Lighting, shadows, etc.

Also, sorry guys, but i'll probably spam this thread quite a bit, because i'll use this as sort of digital sketch book, if you will. Meaning, doing as much work as possible, and post it.
