Default Worms3D US Release Confirmed

For those of you in the States wondering where Worms3D is - especially since us Brits got it for Hallowe'en - you'll be marginally pleased to hear that it's due for a US release in February. Unfortunately it's being released by Acclaim. But it's better than nothing.

Oh, I already have it, for three different formats. It kicks ass.

Actually I wasn't overly impressed with Gunbound. It's a sort-of cartoonish version of a Freeware game called "Front Assault" for the Amiga, which in turn is a clone of Scorched Earth. And I much prefer Frontal Assault anyway.

It's wonderful- it feels like they've kept the orihginal game and seamlessly added the 3rd dimension without changing anything else. Limited arsenal though.

Well gameplay changes when you throw a whole dimension into the field. You have to limit and amount of certain weapons (hence why you only have X amount of Dragonpunches and Y amount of shotgun, etc.) and some weapons had to go completely (Armageddon, for instance) but it does work well.

I found the demo's almost unplayable.
Much of the time i literaly couldnt see anything to shoot at.
Aiming and ranging the bazzoka was annoyingly difficult and it's damage weak. the third dimension provided even more ways an otherwise well aimed grenade could bounce off target. The insane chain reaction type explosions with worms bouncing all over which were the trademark of and the best part of the 2d games were mysteriously abscent...

people say it made a seemless translation into 3d...i think they are either insane or talking about a different game.

Well i imported a copy and it is an excellent transition. You just have to get used to the new camera angles.

Admittedly the demos were a bit pants... they did not choose the best levels to play on. The Camera is a bit fidgetty at times but the Blimpcam helps out plenty.

Nah, it's not as powerful as it should be in my opinion. I really liked the 2d games where your worm could fly off the screen from a stick of dynamite. The land doesn't blow-up as good as it should too.

It's the poxel (polygons and voxels) engine they're using. It's very hard to create fully deformable landscapes like that (don't mention Red Faction - that's GeoModding and it's a different thing entirely).

I don't think it would be so bad if they increased the destruction radius of all the weapons.

Hey, anyone ever played Gundbound? Its basicly like worms... a bit simpler in some respects, but it's online and totaly free. And your avatar gains gold for items and stuff.

gunbound.net....

I hope the worms 3d full game is a lot better than the demo, the demo sucked... could not tell where anything was or anything.

Agreed. i really do miss the whole flying off the screen. And worms skipping on water (unless i'm not hitting them right). Still a great game.
