Question The Great Pyramid vs The Grand Cathedral vs Mental Institution

Here is my opinion:

The Great Pyramid:
– Only a few different types of enemies.
– Long unchanging paced battle.
– No secrets.

+ Huge and challenging boss.
+ Huge amount of enemies onscreen at the same time.
+ Intense battle.

The Grand cathedral:
– A bit too many places to use " http://forums.seriouszone.com/images/icons/icon4.gif Lame tactics http://forums.seriouszone.com/images/icons/icon4.gif ."
– End boss dosen't attack you personally.

+ Huge amount of enemies onscreen at the same time.
+ Balanced difficulty.
+ Many types of enemies in this level.
+ Lots of secrets (edit)

Mental Institution:
– Boss dosen't seem to fit to be the final boss.
– Impossible to complete this level alone with 500% extra enemy health (even if you could reach mental institution building and survive all 6 attacks, you won't have enough time to kill the building without getting crushed).
– Not that many enemies onscreen at the same time.
– Too many serious bombs.

+ Moving walls add a bit of variety
+ Many different types of enemies.
+ Fight style changes often.
+ Excellent choice of music.

And yours?

Here's my two cents...
Great Pyramid is superb until you enter the space ship... Then it's frustrating... I love Ugh Zahn, and still think hes the best out and out boss ever in gaming history to date.

Grand Cathederal... Outside of the Cathederal iteslf is the best fight scene ever... Hundreds of enemies of different types... Yeah, you can go to the edge and snipe most of them, if you want, but if you want a true Serious fight, this is the place to be... The Summoner was not a great boss, as you said, he doesnt attack you. But the fight before him is immense, and that did if for me.

Mental Institution... Well, I guess it probably is the biggest boss ever (it is a building afterall), but it didnt do it for me... I think the level would be alot better if they'd drop the clay-pigeon shooting gallery stuff (clowns), etc... The level design was really good overall, but it didnt feel satisfying to me - shooting a building, n all...

If you think TGP is intense, you should try it in Dwk's Parse Error: SE 2 mod (recently changed of name to "Serious Insamnity" (be sure to set Extra Enemies to 20× )

I liked all of them for their music which really fit as final level music but Grand cathedral is good because you can look around while fighting enemies to find the secrets (two of which are more than just secret items)

Great Pyramid:

Good points:

- The music is awesome.
- The pre-Ugh Zan battle is FANTASTIC
- The atmosphere is really freaky when you play it for the first time, since "something big is about to happen.".
- Many enemies.

Bad points:

- Only 5 types of enemies.
- Ugh Zan is quite hard to beat on higher difficulties.
- Duhh...

Grand Cathedral:

Good points:

- Very balanced on every difficulty level.
- A LOT of (different) enemies.
- Change of weather = change of atmosphere boring.
- Very addicting music.

Bad points:

- Mordekai was disappointing for an end-of-game boss...

Mental Institution:

Good points:

- FREAKING much enemies for a Serious Sam 2 level!
- Keeping you pumped with the earthquakes and Ugh Zan sounds.
- Very intense end-of-game-boss fight!
- The same "you-know-it's-coming-but-at-the-same-time-you-don't" feeling you get in the Great Pyramid.

Bad points:

- Too difficult on higher difficulties.
- Way too much serious bombs for lower difficulties.

Secrets are a category of their own. The final level is mostly about gameplay, looks and atmosphere to me.

Havn't played Mental institution yet...

But the Grand Cathedral was the bomb. You have to fight hard for every inch of ground in the corridor, and the battle with the meteors was imaginative and hardcore.

I loved the Great Pyramid. Ugh Zan was almost impossible to beat, I had to use cheats. By the way, for those of you who don't know the cheats, you have to press the left trigger, black button, white button, and y button down at the Main Menu to unlock the Cheats option. you can unlock it when pausing the game.

The Grand Catherdal was okay. The battle was great, but the end-of-game boss sucked! But it did have lots of secrets.

Mental Institution was long, but it sucked! Guyz, help me out, is there a hidden final boss level or something? Do you have to play the game in Serious mode to unlock it like the end movie says? Help me!

There's no end boss in the xbox version, as it wasn't finished in time for it.
It did make it into the pc version though, but that doesn't really help you considering that you're using the xbox version (at least it sounds like it from what you said about enabling cheats...)

I admit, Mordekai the summomer was more than a little cliched, but he's freaking hard as hell on Serious difficulty. He always seems to throw a few more enemies than you can eliminate before he throws the next lot at you, and before long, the enemies have multiplied in number. Ammo quickly becomes a problem as well.

So there's no way to unlock the final boss level! Come on! Some final level!

You can only fight the building on the PC version.. it was something they added at the very last moment.

The Great Pyramid:

I like this, but it took me a few days to figure out how to beat the boss.

The Grand cathedral:

The most and best last boss of all.

Mental Institution:

Grand Cathedral... The fights prior to the big yard is excellent, the fight on the big yard should have had more enemies....

Great Pyramid comes in second, right behind Grand Cathedral.

The big yard means the boss battle yard? Because the huge yard before that had so many enemies that you feel claustrophobic.

Hmm: Kleers, Werebulls, Blue Walkers, Red Walkers, Kamikazes, Lava Golems, Ugh-Zan III. I can count more than 5.

Remember the fight against all the big spiders and the werebulls? On the xbox the game ends after you beat that fight.

You get the idea. They could've also used Gnaars or some Reptiloids.

After NETRICSA's line:
"Woooohooo! It's amazing what you've just done. This is YOUR game!"
The game just ends and you see the final movie identical to the PC version.

Also, might I add I LOATH the Xbox version? You can only create 4 profiles, you can only choose from 4 multiplayer characters, the game looks bland even for an Xbox game, and for ****'s sake, why the HELL do my profiles keep CORRUPTING in Magnor?! That just destroys ANY fun of playing if you work hard and suddenly you start a game and your profile is damaged.

I got a corrupted profile on my very first runthrough last year, and guess what, it happened in Magnor; the boss level ZumZum.
Nowdays I back up my profile every now and then so I don't lose too much progress if it happens again. Unfortunately that isn't possible with the xbox version. . .

It mostly happens in Branchester for me. I also got lucky once and made it to ChiFang. But after 4 or 5 (you lose count after a while) times I got enormously pissed off and could just stop myself from snapping the ****ing disk in half. Thank god I have the PC version too.

It is kind of funny that the game seems to have been made for the xbox, but is a lot more stable on the PC.

It is kind of funny that it's not true. The games were developed at the same time, and the Xbox version was dumbed down, less detailed, some small tweaks. Calling it a console game is stupid. The cartoony look was Croteam's design decision, and not a "console issue". The lives were added for those who do not want to press F6 and F9 all the time, and as a way to get a bigger bonus. In the bonus screen each live is worth 1000 points. Yes, there were some design issues because Croteam designed for two platforms at once, but blindly saying that it's designed for the Xbox is stupid, because I have both versions, and that it's not the case.
