Must it be a Singleplayer Map or can it be a Coop (Coop Only) too ?
IF YES:
Must it have Cutscenes (because it sucks in coop) ?

Coop is optional, plus I know what to expect, and what the judges are looking for, seeing as I've played all 10 of the last contest's maps.

What i don't like about cutscenes in SED is the fact if the player gets hit by an enemy (or damage) while in it, or by skipping it, it pulls you out of the cutscene... I dont know a way around it yet :/

If player stays on an action marker with "Wait forever" action type, then the cutscenes should not get interrupted by enemies hitting player. Then you can release the player by triggering another action marker (of type "Release player" obviously).

Actually, in standard TSE 1.07 with WaitForever active the player won't take damage, but getting hit by a monster does break an active camera loop and the player is still stuck until a ReleasePlayer is triggered.

Another alternative is to TP the player away and use a fake player made out of models.


I know one of rules is to be able to run on a fresh copy of the game, but my map needs FE content installed on SE, is this allowed without me adding the content VIA the gro file?

ok, I guess it's time to waste alot of filesize then

Rev's editor is overrighting ALOT of registry shit, the classic SE editor keeps saving all settings to the Rev folder :O

EDIT: OK, SS's classic editor is completely broken if you've used Rev's atleast once.

It turns out, if you've saved the level in the classic editor with Rev's editor run once, the classic editor saves the file with Rev's dataprint, and now, the level is UN-OPENABLE IN CLASSIC!!!

I cannot work with this!!

That would be because Angelo didn't have the foresight to change the registry paths rev uses to something unique. You can reinstall classic to fix that.

Saving the level in Revolution creates a new wld signature that can't be opened by TSE classic, this is an obvious design to prevent data corruption that is not Angelo's fault at all. That's like complaining saving a level in TSE won't let you open it in TFE anymore. There might be a workaround if you save the level without any Revolution entities like with brushes only but I'm not sure how current that information is.

Besides, why would you switch editors without copying the file? I always have frequent backups of my shit to make sure this doesn't happen.

Actually, you should be able to open SSR levels in Steam version of SED 1.07 if they contain no SSR-specific entities. Also SSR SED should not prevent classic SED from functioning, I used both and they both work.

Cool thanks for the info. I originally thought the game would just freeze at that point and the player would do nothing at first, but I know how to use it now thanks

I also wonder if you can load Rev levels on the original serious editor as well (which i use) due to the fact i can mod it and add new enemies, weapons, etc... Like for example, as a test, I loaded a warped level into my mod. In the original SED it doesn't work, but for example the Plasma Thrower and Mine Layer on mine turned into the seperate new weapons I added in the game (A plasma rifle and a crossbow).. (That was just a test though)..

Also I wish on Rev, they would allow previously modded files to work with Rev (for example the replacement EntitiesMP.dll, GameMP.dll, GameGUIMP.dll, to work too; but in a seperate directory within the bin folder it would be really useful. But im not sure how that would work out

Actually I would enter competitions normally for mapping, but sometimes I don't really use my time wisely and all and it ends up like me finishing 1 level in half a year which is a really long time (but also because I had school and all). And now I go to uni and stuff, but I wish i was able to do the competition but nah i'll just give it a miss, too much on my back..

Provided you can figure out what your suppose to do, you can get lost fast if you can't understand Russian XD (I wondered around for about an hour like an idiot on Space Mission, not noticing the batteries)

I remembered with that Russian stuff I had to edit the game files (like Netricsa text), copy and paste it into a notepad document, open it with word (so it converts it into Russian letters), then convert it on Google and replace the text, otherwise I will have no idea what i'm doing! And I had to edit the files because it kept coming up with missing files that included Russian symbols so it had to be changed back to it's ASCII form or something.
