Default Turok (remastered?) out tomorrow

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2015...c/#more-336033

So, if you really liked Duke3d, didnt like commander keen, and didnt/kinda-still-dont-like-hardcore-rpg's, didnt like dues-ex, loved tomb raider, would you say this is a must play?
I still have a tiny bit o money in my steam wallet, and have heard such great things about this game.
So, yes or no?

Remastered doesn't mean a HD remake, you shouldn't really care for its graphics, it's a real classic, Turok 2: Seeds of Evil is even better, one of the really good N64 shooters back then, I still own the original black N64 cartridge of it

It's not that steep.

£15-20 would be steep

Edit: ok I guess I forgot about currencies.

it's £10 for me see.

I'd buy it if it was on Steam.

Wow the price is really too high, but overall it doesn't change the fact it is a great game but for that price you guys should wait for a sale.

I agree, it's an 18-year-old game so it's definitely not worth the steep price tag. Especially since the only thing they did is make it modern hardware compatible and slapped on some new features like cheevos, bloom and anti-aliasing. Besides, in a few days it's time for the holiday sales.

If by rpg you mean a rocket launcher, well, all I know is that Turok 2 had one You pick up weapons and blow shit up. In Turok 2 you also had to collect keys and special abilities to open new worlds and reach certain areas. The game was very gory and maps were labyrinths. There was no rpg stuff and puzzle solving, not sure where you get that from, I doubt the first one had those. I never played it though.

Thanks.
Didnt say there were rpg elements, I never played it.
I just heard it was good.
But, I also heard System Shock 2 was good, and I hated it.

Thats why I was asking about it first.

Sounds like I would like it, but I was expecting a $5 game, not $20.
That price is outrageous, given the games age.

Yeah, 20$ is a bit much (though it is 20% off right now). Remember when GOG had that 5.99$ or 9.99$ price policy for "good old games" ?

I'm surprised how much news coverage this game has. I wasn't aware Turok games were so popular.

I am not sure if these games are fast enough for you Dave, though I base that only on Turok 2. What do you think about Quake 2 or Blood 2 ? I feel like Blood 1 and Duke Nukem 3D, which I know you like, are a bit faster and more crazy. But, if you like to explore the levels, then Turok 2 is a game for you, I remember being lost all the time even though I had a map (though that was basically my first 3D game ever, together with Quake 2).

It's the most natural thing. Who doesn't like to run trough a field of small health packs in Serious Sam, or coins and rings in Super Mario and Sonic, etc

You are right, I do like the fast paced games, but I also dont mind just regular old shooters also.
Sounds like the levels are more open than fast paced corridor shooters, more exploration, which I dont mind.
Def waiting a sale though.

So, made it to the 'level II' section, where you are at the center of the stones where you select the next level to go to.

I can see why it was both a good game, and not really well known, at the time.
Its an interesting game (I like weird games sometimes). It kind of reminds me of John Romero's Daikatana meets Hexen, strange and weird, but Turok is actually better-ish (than Daikatana, its not as good as Hexen so far).
Its kind of dull also, not a lot of excitement or population of enemies so far, but the level design is kinda good, in that it utilizes horizontality.
A little on the easy side for nowadays (and even them days), but it seems like it will build up the difficulty as you keep going? Or is that just mis-perception?
Speed, speed, speed. Oh, hecks yes! Its like Quake III with Haste on! I LOVE fast and speedy games.
I also like the seperate(ish) black holes, which seem to be both not needed and needed(sometimes the 'secret black hole' has a key in it, or something you need to proceed in the game, or sometimes it just gives you more health or a special item). Some good puzzles in those (not real puzzles, but timing based so far).
So, I like it, in that its fresh to me, and reminds me of all the good things games did back in the day, but it also fails in some areas also.

So far, not regretting getting it (remember, I never played any Turok game before now).

Everyone says Turok 2 is better than 1, that it fixed some things that were bad in the 1st game.
I hope that wasnt everything I liked about the 1st one so far (but I am sure it is, they probably added a great story, slowed down the pace, threw in Stealth, and made it like SystemShock II ).

I was really curious what you will have to say about this game. So far it sounds like I might like it too.

Turok 2 does have an amazing and deep story, you see, you are this Native American guy that was teleported to this dimension filled with dinosaurs, to fight of this evil creature called Primageon... and that's about it.

I warned you T2 is not very fast paced, there are no crazy amounts of enemies at the screen at once. You got to remember these are one of the first 3D shooters ever made. Putting 10 enemy 2D sprites at once on screen in Duke 3D or Blood was not a problem for PC back then, but 3D animated enemies was. Quake 2, Blood 2 all had less enemies than those 2D sprite based shooters.

You say the level design utilizes horizontality, did you mean verticality instead ? I know T2 has you going up and down, and all over the place. Also in Turok 2 you go to 4-5 completely different worlds with different enemies, and even one "secret" one, so it is probably much more varied and crazy than T1. And you have like 20 weapons. And yeah, no stealth. I wont't go more into detail so I don't spoil it.
