I don't understand how can it be "early pre-alpha" after 7 years, with Talos Principle being released 4 years ago, and that was supposed to have used SS4 as a base ? They must have ditched the original SS4 the same way id Software did original Doom 4. I expected this to be way more advance and release after summer.

As an example, if You remember seeing old[er] "in progress" screenshots of DNF, You'd notice that the screenshots look nothing like the "final" game and in-progress screenshots from different stages of the development also look nothing alike.
When taking a while on making a game, it is not uncommon to scrap parts of the game / its visuals to update and "catch up". (In the aforementioned DNF case, the need to "catch up" kept being bigger than their development pace, hence taking that damn long)
And I gotta say, the (at this point really old) Sam4 footage from the making-of Talos video looks a lot more like Sam3-on-roids than what these previews have to offer.

TL;DR
Croteam got stuck in a minor development hell there for a bit.

P.S. if You really really want to know more
just ask these guys who we know are already testing it:

https://seriouss.am/i/SS_2018_06_16_09_48_26

then realize they're under NDA and Ya shouldn't bug them with questions they're not allowed to answer... asshole.

Graphics in SS were always either on top (classic FE/SE), or at least among the best ones on the market, when the game arrive (SS2, SS3). So yeah, we care about graphics.

I don't know how many members Croteam has exactly, but I don't think they really have a seat compare to the whole army of graphic designers that the AAA game developers have.

There it is! Serious Sam is back in the combine harvester! Proof positive beyond a shadow of a doubt that The Next Encounter has been officially declared officially canon!

Can't wait to see the new Dum-Dum!

Perhaps the whole 100,000 enemies on screen at the same time is why this game is taking forever to make and still needs a lot of work done on it? It must have been a huge technical challenge for Croteam.

Higher quality: http://www.jeuxvideo.com/videos/repo...ce-e3-2018.htm

Looks much better than the previous gameplay footage.

Btw. developers confirmed:

-its "early pre-alpha"

-most of the vegetation is placeholder

-128x128km size (not 128 squared) and 100,000 enemies (50,000 currently achieved)

-the game isn't releasing in 2018

Yeah looks much better, even though the animations are awful and there are obvious placeholders such as the gun at the beginning and the pickups.

Is "placeholder" something like "model holder"? Sorry, I have experience only with SEd1

"Placeholder" means it's temporary and will change before final release.

According the screenshot names in serioussam.com, the internal names of the new prisoner enemies are called Processed and the Russian level is an oilrig.

I hope Oilrig will play out like Gathering Of The Gods. Would be fun to run around freely on an oil rig.

You can't expect much from the AI, but at least they shouldn't intentionally run into the combine ! Cockroaches in Half-Life had basic avoidance AI, fish in Mario 64... I still can't believe its "early pre-alpha" after 7 years. At least the sniper is back, will be fun in the big open fields.

Well, Croteam is doing something revolutionary. 100 000 enemies on screen, 100 000 models, 100 000 ragdolls
