Stop answering all those questions! How will we make an interview? We won't have anything left to ask.

Will the sound effects in Serious Sam 3 be more bassy and powerful than in Serious Sam 2 (namely explosion & weapon sounds)?

[SS:HD question] Will the SS1 music be remastered and/or re-encoded for better sound quality in SS:HD? (ogg vorbis has come a long way since 2001)

Thanks for the replies, it is greatly appreciated. I have just one thing to add :

Mostly yes, plus, SSHD holds some more improvements that are in the line on where SSFE was, and SS3 adds some more specific stuff to gameplay and options, but I won't go into details. But gravities, unfortunately not yet. I've explained for SS2 that, while the new physics engine supports arbitrary gravity, puppets, projectiles and particle effects are hardcoded for downward gravity. That saves a lot of development time on the AI, and we haven't yet found enough reason to go for directional gravities.
Would it be possible, then, for a fan to add directional gravity in with a mod?

I believe that should be possible, but like Alen said, it's quite some work. I think the Playerpuppet.cpp in Sam2 is around 10k lines, and theres more than that class

Don't quote me on that though, been some time since I worked with the SDK.

Aha! Who's the bad guy now, not allowing us to post? I thought that was a bad publisher's line, never expected that from you, Gim. Ts, ts...

Haha, we really want the answers, but if you answer all the juicy ones, there will be nothing left for the interview. But thanks a lot, we'll make a news post soon. We're experiencing technical difficulties with the site. First it was moved to a new host, then the forum and site went down, and now we're in the middle of making a new site, and the old one is kind of half-broken. So it takes some "hacking" to get the news out.

By the way, I'll repeat this again for anyone interested: we need help with the new site, so we can have it up ASAP. (talk to Louva-Deus) Also, we'll be needing other help in the coming days, weeks and months so we can provied you with the best information as fast as possible, and maybe even a few surprises along the way.

Whoa....

I didn't expect these to get answered, at all, for a long time. Thanks a lot indeed for taking the time to look them through. I especially like the sound of being able to load stuff from SS2 straight to SS3, I could see plenty of people benefitting from that.

More questions related to Serious Sam HD:

So HD will feature improvements that are in on the line where FE was; can you share anything? New enemies, weapons? More maps/levels? Dare I hope for vehicles and turrets? (I bet a lot of people are against me on this one, but meh)

How will the game's achievements work? Are they handled through Steamworks, or does the game have its own system?

More on that, will Serious Sam HD require any additional programs to be running on the same time to play, such as Games for Windows Live? (Steam I'd understand if you bought the game from there of course, but I hope Games for Windows Live will be excluded or optional)

How well does the engine scale hardware wise? Can a computer that ran SS2 on high settings run SS3?

The press release mentions 4 player online co-op on Xbox, will we see higher player counts than that on the PC side?

Will there be a demo of Serious Sam HD?

And screw the interview

SE3 supports DirectSound W&W/O EAX, OpenAL, and XAudio2. But XAudio2 rocks so much, you don't want to use anything else. That will be the default, and there probably won't be a menu option to use the other two at all (only through the console). XAudio works perfectly, no matter which chip you have. We were never able to pull this much reliablity in reproducing the same sound effects with other APIs before, ever since our old software mixer (which is not used for quite some time). Effectively, XAudio2 _is_ a software mixer, and that is why it works so well.

Sounds great, but in all honesty i'm happy as long as it works on integrated soundcards (ie, doesn't cause severe stuttering like SS2).

I'm very pleased with the direction you guys are taking with Serious Sam 3. Much love.

I do have a question: With this Serious Sam HD... is this a loose remake of Serious Sam FE like what Serious Sam Forever is trying to be? I was hoping us old players wouldn't get this 'oh, I've already done this before' and 'I know what happens around every corner' feeling.

Jasser, as far as I know software acceleration depends entirely on the CPU.

Me too. And all it really requires is some changes in the battles, so we wouldn't know what's going to hit us next. For example, in the very beginning of Hatshepsut you could change the Beheaded Rocketeers for the Firecrackers and maybe change their positioning. Doesn't even have to be like that all the time, I guess some battles work best as they are.

Definitely this.

They could even add in entirely new levels, as I suggested, maybe take advantage of some of the engine's new features to create proper rolling boulders (like the one in the secret on Valley of the Jaguar) and traps that squash enemies and destroy the environment too, floors that tremble and break apart beneath your feet, etc. etc. Apparently SE had more of these than FE level design wise, maybe we could see more of them in FE with more freedom overall instead of just following a select path (but not overdone of course).

Or just make all the levels bigger and better with ten times more awesomeness and cherries on top.

My questions were missed apparently, so I'll re-post them (with some improvements and additions).

Will SS3 have more macro functions? Or will SS3 retain the same macro commands from SS2?

Will it be possible to further customize custom maps in SS3 (and SSHD) with custom weapons and player models?

Will it be possible to de-finalize models (assuming they are going to finalized) in SS3 (and SSHD)?

Will there be Simba Dolls in SS3?

Btw, during my research I found out that Entroper's name used to be Solar Jetman.

so... can you describe the similarities and differences of the SSHD project as compared to the SS Forever project? There is a lot of confusion there.

from what i get, SSF is more like a fan project, which isn't a direct copy of TFE but rether their own view on TFE, so maps are conceptually similar, but on the first look it may actually look quite difrent. Also, it's not known, but it is speculated it will have more new features, so it's not not just port of TFE to ss3.

Also people post all you questions now, i'm sure you have many!

Awesome. Thanks for taking the time to answer these questions for the fans, we greatly appreciate it.

From what I'm hearing, Serious Sam 3 sounds like it's going to be some good old classic Sam action that we all love.
Can't wait!
