Default Serious Sam 3 remake

Hello, fellas.
I've been thinking, if SSR is all about old school gaming and since Croteam have remade the original Serious Sam on new engine, why not take Serious Sam 3 and remake it on the original Serious Engine with the style of the original game?

because, as cool as it would be, it would take a lot of effort and time, and i don't think there are many who would be willing or passionate enough to put in the work to do it

just look at the many projects to remake half-life 2 on the goldsource engine, they all burned out relatively quickly

But the first level in Serious Sam 3 is the most boring one

Nah, imo it's a well made first level of a game.

Wasn't the First level demake already done? Or is this not a "full" demake (weapons, stats, and the like)?

Agreed. Not the best level in the game, but certainly not the worst. I think the worst is the Dark Bride. That level made me want to fly out to Croatia just to kick Alen in the dick (because of the Kleer onslaught half-way through).

Alen isn't the gameplay designer. That would be Tome, as far as I know.

Actually, the Kleer onslaught is something people actually asked for. I remember back then before SS3 was out, many people wanted to see a TFE Metropolis like Kleer run. And they got it.

It's a shame I got no skills in modeling and level design, I can only try to remake some tracks from SS3 with SS1 style.

I think it'll be difficult to make in in SE1, cause that editor is a bit hard to learn at first, but there are many people that know how to work there.. Btw I like your idea.

About 5 years ago I triyed to learn it, even managed to create a simple map, it didn't seem so hard.
What might be really difficult is creating new models for the old engine becuase SS3 had quite a lot of new enemies like spiders, riflemen and others. And they have to be animated and scripted properly. Well, I think scripting for other beheaded solders could be reused with some slight modifications for riflemen, but still it's a lot of work.
I think modeling new enemies and scripting should be the start point.

Why do you think Dark Bride was the worst level in the game? I thought it was one of the better levels in SS3. It had some great moments like the Kleer horde hallway right after you get the minigun and the final area. IMO, the worst level has to be the Into the Spider's Nest level. Most of it takes place in small dark underground corridors that look all the same and Sam runs slow as hell in those parts which made the level even more boring.

Any level with interiors can suck a dick. So I'm with Bio on this.

Actually, now I'm thinking it might be interesting to remake SSHD with monsters from SS3 and more realistic maps and environment.

Why? The point for is to match the old game and the new game in style and gameplay. It can be achieved by demaking the new game or remaking the old game.

Also, speaking of demaking: I think I've heard of Duke Nukem Forever project, some guys made a game on Duke Nukem 3D engine based on old Duke Nukem Forever trailers and comcepts. Therefore, SS3 demake is totally can be done.

Sorry, I mean it sounds stupid to me. For example, you can't really compare gnaars in HD with gnaars in BFE, they're completely different creatures.

Well, that's the point. It will add something new and fresh to the old game.

Also, Black Mesa (Half-Life remake on Source engine) is a great example of this concept.

Huh? I don't think you can compare that, considering the Black Mesa team re-did everything (or most of it) from scratch. There's no huge difference between a headcrab from HL1 and a headcrab from HL2, while there's a big difference between gnaars from HD and gnaars from BFE.

Yeah, but that also added a lot of new enemies like bullsquids and houndeyes, and I do belive there are some diffirences in behavior and AI of headcrabs, soldiers on other creatures.

And, I think, basically it all comes to AI. Like, if you replace gnaar's model in SSHD with a model from SS3 but keep the AI it will be basically the same creature. But the point is SSHD still remains unrealistic (yeah, I know, almost every FPS is unrealistic, but still), it's just has HD graphics, but what if consider it some sort of modification that is not just a copy of original Serious Sam, but a redisigned and updated version? that feels like an expantion to Serious Sam 3? I mean, in SS3 city streets felt like actual real places, but imagine ancient egyptian cities and strees and even historical places? I'm not talking about 100% percent historical accuracy, but at least something really believable?

Dunno, I think you'd have to change the BFE gnaar model then as well, because it will probably be too big (too wide mainly?) to fit in corridors and stuff. Actually, I believe that goes for most monsters in BFE, that they're all a tad bigger than they were in HD. Or is that just an illusion?

Actually, they are smaller than in SSHD. In SSHD/SS2/SS1, everything was oversized. SS3 was build to scale, and turned out that many of the Classic enemies were actually very large. For one, when I recreated the Highlander, its original size based on SSHD was larger than Ugh-Zan IV. I had to adjust it according to the smaller sizes of everything in SS3.

As Angelo said Gnaar from Classic/HD is an another enemy like in BFE. Even Zumbuls from SD and HD are another. If You want this mod on Classic/Rev you have to modify full game.
Btw: as I know T-REXx is working on BFE for Rev.

Some enemies were left with their SSHD size, I believe. The making of SS3 video shows the SS3 Gnaar with the SSHD Gnaar besides each other, and they are the same size.
