Hi HD!! It is just so good to see so many "old" familiar faces again! Those were the days!! I've been talking to Alien Slayer on Steam and we think it would be a great idea to get the old gang together again for some SS.

If anybody is interested just post here and we'll do it!

Hi Krob. Meant to get back on that with you earlier. Been busy and lost track of time. Hope sometime this summer we can get the gang back together. At least those we can still find. Not sure what happened to Zen and rarely see or hear from the others on here.
Guess we all got busy in other things, but would like to see us all get together for a game again one of these days. Maybe when a few others check in we can get something together.

Thanks L-D, I remember you hosting them before. Might be a bit difficult locating most of the others. Even, I myself don't get on here too often, but maybe some will check in this summer in here and read this thread and post an update.
Take it easy, L-D.

Just checking in. Been gone a few weeks back in Oklahoma, taking care of my sick mom. So, haven't checked in, in quite a long time. Just been too busy.
Anyhow, haven't forgotten about you all.

Wow, see Lone Crouton has posted. Long time, no see.

I know I haven't been keeping in contact. I meant to come on here and wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

However, my mom has been ill for quite a while, and I had to fly back to Oklahoma during the summer right after the 4th of July, for a month, when she had a couple of strokes, and then again right before Christmas, she had blood clots and almost died twice, so I spent the holidays back there in ICU with mom, while my wife stayed home to keep our jobs (we work as a management team), so I never got the chance to wish everyone a Happy holidays.

What brought me back here was the automated Happy Birthday wish from Seriously! I got in my email, which reminded me to log in here.

I am glad everyone is still thinking of Oscar. He was more than just an old gamer. He was a Seriously cool guy. Wished I would have taken the time to drive over and visit him while we were all still Samming, since he lived in San Francisco, just a little over an hour from me. Guess us ol farts were just always too busy.

Take care all.

I just have to say, it is really cool that Oscar's memorial thread has served as the place where old timers return to catch up with fellow forum veterans. In a way, his legacy on this forum lives on through all the folks that get to reconnect through his memory. I'm sure he would like that.

Just thought I'd drop in and pay my respects.

For what it's worth, I have always seen this as a real community, even though it is virtual.

Something I've noticed over time is that as people get older, more and more people they know or care about pass away. There are two mathematical reasons this has to happen, but to get into that might not be respectful. I just want to remind everyone that in the course of time we can all expect more of this, and of course each of us will eventually die ourselves.

I don't say that to be depressing, quite the contrary. Having very nearly died myself, I have come to believe that most people in our society are not "real" with certain human realities of which death is a very important if not the chief of those ignored by our modern culture.

Godspeed to our departed brother and let's all keep reality in mind, even if the fantasies and fictions we share are the gathering signposts of our community. We connected over a game, but at the same time instead we might say that the game served as a magnet that drew us together.

Be well, my friends.

Exactly right, my old friend. Oscar would like knowing that his memory is still keeping us tied together as friends, even if 'friends from afar'.

Nice to see Darth Plato and JohnN popping in, too. And not to forget Discy, one of the friendliest, if not The friendliest, people I have ever met on here.

Would be nice to hear from Zen.

See, you are still taking care of the place L-D. I know this site would not still be here, if not for you. You keep it running like a well cared for vintage car.

Take care you all.

AS, sounds like your mom has had a terrible time and I hope she's doing much better now.

It is just so nice to see so many familiar people and see how you all are doing. I think as I look back some of the happiest memories of my life were playing Sammy with you all. I know....I know...Get a life.

Do any of you in the WCFD group remember Baby Sam? He (my grandson) was born about the time the first test came out if I remember correctly. I got him some red tennis shoes and remember BEGGING his parents to name him Sam. Baby Sam is now 16 so what does that say about how long we old timers have been around!!

(I believe it was Big Blue that was Zen's tennant)

Hi Krob. Glad to hear from you again.
Well, my mom goes from one bad health issue to another. She has dementia, and possibly Alzheimer's. Sometimes she thinks my dad is still alive and wonders where he is. He died in April 2010.
It is really sad. She is the best mom a guy could ever had. She has helped so many people over the years, and her and my dad would help anyone whoever looked like they need it. It has come to the point where, my sister, brother and I, all agree that if God is not going to heal her, it would be better He takes her. We are so distraught watching her suffer, day after day, 24/7.

Hey, you know what, I feel the same way about our Sammage Days on here as a WCFD clan member and member if S! ...

...and YES! Very much remember Baby Sam! LOL
I remember you having input to name him Sam from you love of the game and our fun times on here. Wow! 16 years old huh? Sam is driving now. Hope he isn't carrying a rocket launcher with him, heh heh, unless you all are overrun by gnaars out there.

Take care Krob. I don't get on here too often anymore, but I do try to check in once in a while.

You too L-D, take care that is. I know you monitor the boards.
and a good job, too.

I can tell you from 1st hand experience that that sucks, badly.
I had my 1st round of clots (8 dvt's in right calf, and a massive pulmonary embolism, that almost killed me, stretched my (aorta?), and (I think) killed some of my lung tissue (although they have no way to check for this atm).
I barely recovered from that (it took me 2 1/2 hours to make a walk that took everyone else 40 minutes to make, and that was more than a year afterwards), and ANY healing was and is slowed by the lack of blood flow (unless you wear a stocking to get the blood flowing, but when I wear mine the blood flows too fast, and my heart starts hurting from that stretched (aorta?), and it feels limke clots are passing through my heart again, which gives me panic attacks (which I NEVER had before almost dying from the clots).
The 2nd round wasnt as bad, as they were all superficial clots in the left arm, except 1, and that 1 ended up not going anywhere except down to my hand, and eventually the finger (actually, 3 or 4 did).
My 2nd round was this year (still going on), and was almost, if not, worse than the 1st round. I now have clots from my calf, to my thigh, and into my abdomen, so high up they could not ultrasound them anymore.
I cant really do anything anymore (I have other issues also, like broken coccyx, stretched spinal cord, super bad coccyx pain requiring 3 coccyx pillows and a mesh chair just to be able to sit for more than 10 minutes, bad L4-L5 fusion (although they say its all good, it hurts all the time like the coccyx does), numbess AND sever pain of the whole right leg/toes, from the claf down, numbness on a few toes on the left foot (this makes walking very hard, as I cant feel the ground before I step, and gets me all wobbly like), bad neck surgery with 2 disks removed andf fused, with pain going everywhere, down both arms to fingers, pins/needles, SHARP pain needles, pain down to the bottom ribs, sometimes with VERY bad pain like someone is stabbing me over and over and over for like a few minutes, then stops for a few, then starts again, and rinse repeat).
I am in bedd more than I am out of bed, by maybe 3/4 in bed to 1/4 out of bed.
I cant drive anymore.
My body is atrophying, which makes everything hurt worse, and I am on blood thinners for life now, which makes everything hurt worse by ~ 10%
(thats not even getting into all the stuff I have, like chronic migraines, cluster migraines, pain from having to use a cane, having to take pills for the pain that make my memory suck worse, cant make decisions, just a 'fuzzy head' feeling ALL the time. I cant drive. Taking a shower hurts more than getting beat up by Mike Tyson (I assume, I have never fought Mike, lol), and I have had to change my clothes, because regular clothes are too heavy for me, and I can only wear super duper lightweight clothing that doesnt 'cling' to me too hard or it feels like someone is cinching a chain around my waist, neck, arms, feet. Even laying in bed, if there is a wrinkle and I am laying on it, it wil hurt so bad it might put me out for a whole day not being able to do anything at all but lay in bed (shower can put me in bed for up to 3 days, sigh).
And, its all because of that 1st round of blood clots ("I" think. The Dr.'s cant even say I actually have pain or not, because they are dumb, lol).
I think there may be some other underlying problem, that some of these symptoms of other things like blood clots or back surgery may be hiding.
I found a good Dr. that believes (or at least is going along with me), to see if that is the case or not.

So, I can understand what your Mother went through, and the pain and suffering. It is really bad, I think up there with having cancer in some cases. And, Dr.'s dont really know how to treat this except with blood thinners, which have their own problems (I have had maybe 20-25 mini-stroke like episodes since having blood clots, and being on thinnners, and Dr.'s cant even tell me if they were or werent mini-strokes, sigh). Short term memory loss is there all the time (for me).
Sitting and standing hurts like the dickens (dickens = bad).
And trying to build up some form of muscle, and hurting the lower back, or the upper neck, or in-between, or all 3 at once, makes it near impossible.
I went from Superman, able to do anything, anytime, anywhere, to barely being able to get out of bed to use the restroom, in about 5 years. (I wil stop here, too much info, even though there is more wrong with my body).
It really is a terrible way to go. (sorry so morbid, I didnt mean to ramble like this, maybe I needed to get this off my chest).

I hope your mom didnt suffer much, and that it was relatively painless.

And, although I didnt know Oscar, RIP. I hope he knew the Lord, and is with God right now.

Dave, I am so sorry this has happened to you. Although, I don't come on here very often anymore, I do have very fond memories of all our older (original) members, you being one of them. Very good memories of you and our posts, and you being a great person. I am not surprised to find out you are a Christian, you have always treated everyone with respect, and have always been a very respected member here.

I don't know why bad things happen to good people, something I guess we aren't meant to know, but sounds like you are keeping the faith. Since, I see you do believe in God, just want you to know, you will be in my prayers, as I also believe.
I am one of life's ironies who not only believes in science, but also in God and Jesus Christ.

Hope you keep us updated here on your condition, but if you don't feel like making it all public, you can always let me know by emailing me, just put in the subject line Dave3d, so I know it is you and not spam.
My Email is: Zaxxon2001@hotmail.com
My first name is Chris
Write if, and/or when you feel good enough to.

I am still busy working, and don't drop in here often, but have time to listen to a friend. Take car
e, have faith, and fight.

Hey Dave.. when the pain trolly came around you weren't supposed to go back for seconds, thirds, etc.

I have lived with chronic nerve and muscle pain for so long that I'm surprised anything works anymore. God has been gracious to me that I am still functional. Especially lately...

So I recently rediscovered the evils of medicine. I hate taking anything, and 95% of the time refuse even when ordered to, but there has been one thing that I have been taking for years that has, potentially, greatly shortened my lifespan. That would be over the counter benadryl.

So I have always had allergies and a few years ago got tested to find out what they were. Turns out that anything with leaves, fur, or feathers and mold/dust sends me into orbit. And because I have a naturally high tolerance against drugs.. pretty much nothing worked for me except benadryl, so I started taking it regularly. Turns out that OTC doesn't mean it is safe for long-term use.

Benadryl is an ACB drug. ACB stands for Acetylcholine blocker. This is the main chemical in your body to communicate information between nerves, muscles, neurons, etc. So when it gets blocked for extended periods of time... parts of the body can start shutting down. Which has been happening to me.

My quest to learn all of this began when I nearly fell off a ladder because my left side went slack. Once I learned more the connections started popping off: severe memory loss, can't form new memories, organ failure, etc. Then discovered the big things... 46% chance of dementia and 26% chance of death if used regularly for six years... and I've been doing it for probably over ten.

So now I have been 'recovering' for about three weeks and have all kinds of issues now that my body is coming back to life as it were. I have no idea how long it will take and I have no idea yet what is permanent, but my life will probably never be the same now.

Good times!
