I'd like the game to continue if I have to leave for whatever reason. I also don't always have a perfect connection so other players might have a hard time connecting to me. Maybe I'll see if I can spin up a dedicated though. I tried with TSE but I wasn't able to get it to run.

Yeah, recently I tried to host a Delta Force server to play with some friends, and I'm pretty sure I forwared the right port, and turned firewall off, but my friends were unable to see or join my server. Even when we tried using hamachi to try to do a lan game instead of an internet one, they were still unable to see my server. So we ended up not playing. Even though I have memories of successfully playing multiplayer on it years ago..

Older games are more likely to have been on gamespy and require patching to show up online. Also, gamespy games had a separate port for server announcements.

If a game is reliant on GameSpy and hasn't been patched it doesn't matter which ports you forward, it doesn't broadcast as there's no master server list to fetch from.

Anyway, make sure to set a static IP for the host computer and set the right IP in the port forwarding. Also, if your modem supports UPnP (not the Target-UPnP kind) turning it on might help. Also, your shit might be fucked because of your strict-ass fuckin' NAT.

Generally speaking, your DHCP server will give you the same IP every time unless another device tries to claim the same one. Setting it to static avoids that nicely.

That depends on your DHCP settings, a DHCP by definition will only lease an IP to a MAC address for a user-defined period of time. I usually set my DHCP to lease local addresses for 730 hours (one month), because there's never enough devices to warrant a shorter lease time.
