Didn't Solais say that SSVR started a sort of "technological renaissance" in CT which aided SS4's production?

That too, but the gist is that it doesn't negatively impact the development of Sam4.

I'm on page that Croteam follows the old rules of Dev, and still hold up to this day. They're the ones to be most respected in my book, and it's even better their under what I consider the only good publisher.

THQ was solid too. Or was. Then again, with the rebranding, I'd say they're back at least in spirit.

I'd also say Valve too but they're not doing anything but picking their nose lately, game-wise, while Steam makes them a million dollars every second so yeah.

Just another safe bump from me. Artificial, I thought about that support letter in the OP, and I have to say, I am just as eager as you are about the reveal of Serious Sam 4. It better feel, and look like a fast paced, next-gen Serious Sam game.

I'm just tired of most recent AAA games these days. Maybe it's simply because I've played too many games in general though.

I think Doom is the only one that's caught my eye lately. I want Elder Scrolls VI badly as well but we all know that's not gonna happen anytime soon. Divinity: Original Sin 2 is shaping up to be the next Neverwinter Nights though and I'm so pumped for that. Then there's Universe Sandbox 2. An awesome hidden gem on Steam but still in EA unfortunately.

So yeah, for recent games that are out right now,
Serious Sam 4
Doom
Divinity: Original Sin 2
Universe Sandbox 2

Okay, MAYBEEE Overwatch as well, but 1. I don't have the PC to play it currently unless the engine's as solidly built as the Serious Engine 3/3.5 and 2. I don't like ActiBlizzard at all.

Overwatch runs pretty decently on my shitty laptop graphics card, so I think you're good!

I agree with everything that was said in the first few posts. Croteam is one of two developers that has my unwavering support for the foreseeable future. I love the Serious Sam series but The Talos Principle was a work of art. SSHD still gets pretty regular bug fixes and I was ecstatic when they released the Legend of the Beast DLC for it because I thought that they had permanently moved on to other ventures.

I can't think of another developer that does all of these things. I think that I bought everything that they've ever released, including soundtracks and other bonus packs just because not only do they make it worthwhile, but they deserve every little bit of support. Unfortunately good things don't last forever but they seem to have been rock solid since their inception and that hasn't changed. If anything, they have only gotten better with the addition of the writers who worked on The Talos Principle.

I hope that they recognize the small guys who really appreciate what they're doing. If I were a developer, I'd be really happy knowing that someone likes my work as much as much as I like theirs, as well as the others in this thread.

I think too that the Talos Principle was an excellent puzzle game. Probably one of the best I played so far. Same with me, I have bought everything that Croteam has released (almost), as well as a few other games like Doom, etc... They should have an additional donation system to boost support for SS4 or whatever i'll be willing to donate though (though they will still sell the game at normal price)..!

Just trying to ask again. So if I know correctly, Solais, proper development of Serious Sam 4 began after Road to Gehenna was complete?

Or they will pump again the SS4 hype and then "Get this game, which nobody asked for... For third time!"

Serious Sam 3 reveal started in February with a scrapjack screenshot. So I'm optimistic that in February - April we'll see something about SS4.

Yeah, I also hope it'll be revealed somewhere around late February - early March, but at the same time I heard that there'll be some big reveals at the local Croatian gamedev conference Reboot in April, so I guess it would be a very appropriate place and time as well.

I wonder, we have been waiting for years the release of SS4. The problem is, more time goes by, more the people will expect about the game... What will happen? Isn't my case anyway, I'm patient, but what about other people? What if people find it disappointing, like... We waited much time for this?

There is another thing - the engine evolution requires more time to create beautiful models/assets and end up with the same amount of levels. I personally expect the game to have mind-blowing graphics, far superior than the one we saw in Talos Principle.

It's a common problem with all the long developed games, but hey - we waited 6 year between SS2 and SS3, and the game wasn't that bad, it wasn't so disappointing imo. We also got SS HD games. Now, when you look at SS4 - it's been 6 years since SS3 release as well, but we have Talos and those VR games (despite the fact that barely anyone asked for them). I hope SS4 will be fine, but I share your fear at some point. In some cases long waiting and silence from developers doesn't do well to their games: just look at Half-Life 3 - fans have been waiting for this game for so long that even if it finally comes out, everyone will be disappointed due the overgrlown assumptions and higher expectations. Or Duke Nukem Forever which was simply too old and outdated. I hope Croteam will announce and release SS4 in the right time and don't make such mistakes.

I'm actually kind of nervous about that - I don't want graphics to be too mind-blowing, because in games like Serious Sam with hordes of enemies and big levels everything should be optimised to the max, while high-quality graphics can be too perfomance consuming. Considering that Serous Engine still has some weird problems with rendering, motion sickness and lighting, it's a hit or miss situation.
