![]() Eh, my PC is a bit botched. Might as well try it on a new one, once I get it. Don't really feel like messing around with a PC, that I'm gonna replace anyway.

![]() Don't really feel like doing that, to be honest. I don't want to loose all my stuff, without having a proper storage for it yet.

![]() If you're reinstalling win 10 you can choose to keep all your files.
There is probably no point in doing that tho as you will still have all the junk files that made system malfunction in the first place. |

![]() The only thing a restore install does is replace the OS. You will have to reinstall some software but your files will be fine.
Note that a windows restore install (actually called a repair install) is different from using the recovery partition that came on your computer (if you have a major brand PC). The recovery partition will wipe out the entire C drive. |

![]() If you have sufficient knowledge I don't understand why people insist on doing anything but a fresh install. Basically 99% of the backup process can either be automated or eliminated, and programs sometimes either have repair capability (like Steam) or automatic backup (like browsers).
It takes me less than 2 hours to get a fresh Windows 7 install of my home computer running (including software and restoring backups), and all that's left then is automatic updates.

![]() The way I was both taught and have learned from experience, a windows reinstall should be your penultimate solution when trying to fix anything. It should be avoided if it can be fixed other ways. (And of course, the last solution is formatting. I just can't fathom how formatting is thrown around nowadays as the best solution to everything. It should always be the last, when there are no other options remaining.)

![]() I'm on the same install of win 7 from the day I bought it, however many years ago that was. So why would I create an elaborate backup system?
But if I was interested in that I know all kinds of things to do, like slipstreaming all of the updates into a new DVD or using drive images to drop in OS, software, and everything already set up. Create my own restore program to reenable all of my software without having to reinstall it. Et cetera. Shoot... I could set it up so that a master drive image is reapplied to my system every day from a NAS RAID array. But I'm cheap and lazy and have better things to do. Tl;dr: It's not like I reinstall my whole OS whenever I run into something, but in the long run it's less of a hassle if you know how it works and safer.

![]() You can also use uninstalled programs like Revo Uninstaller to scan for traces after uninstalling something, and delete those traces.

![]() Iobit's uninstaller is annoying but effective.
Minor traces of garbage on your system isn't as much of a performance hit as people claim. Generally, the things that slow you down are too many active programs (especially background services), cache buildups (programs run slower if they have more shit to process), bloated and fragmented registry, not enough virtual memory, and not enough free space. |

![]() "Touch" the registry has brought me problems. Many years ago, I had AVG PC TuneUp installed (when using WinXP) and one time I decided to defragment the registry and remove errors. I had to do a fresh install after that because the performance of the pc were really awful. I never did it again.
Until last year, I used to delete errors or solve problems on the registry through ccleaner. It has brought me some problems in the future. Now, since I did a fresh install in February, I never touched anything of the registry. It doesn't have any problem. And about background services and processes, I constantly control them, in fact I always check the task manager to see if everything goes as it should be.

![]() The AVG tune up app sucks harambe's dead seeping asshole. No wonder why you had issues. I rarely use those programs but periodically, before I reboot (happens once a month or longer) I will run software updates (ninite, etc), run ccleaner and advanced systemcare, and windows update. And I don't have any problems.

I use Windows Update once a month and ccleaner only to delete temporary files. And the pc automatically does the disk defragmentation every so often, but that's all. Maybe I should try that advanced systemcare, though I doubt I need it.

![]() ASC is probably more annoying than it's worth for you. And you shouldn't really need to defrag. Since Vista they changed things so that fragmentation is less of an issue.

I don't know why you're upset that I took an extended hiatus on reviewing maps and mods. Doing it well takes a lot of time, not just to play, but to research the development, sometimes life takes a higher priority. And honestly, you're not entitled to my time. |

![]() Okay, reviving this thread to say; the first video is pretty much done. Only a bit of polishing is needed (although you can do so much polishing with no budget whatsoever) and it should be up sometime this week, depending on how busy I remain.
Are the people who voted yes, still interested? |
