Default Speedrun vs 100% run

100% run in Serious Sam means killing all enemies possible and finding all the secrets.

I personally think 100% run is more enjoyable.

I like when the game is so illenial that you have no hope to find all secrets and kill all enemies.

100% of course because otherwise you can't say you've finished the game even when you've defeated the final boss

Yup, one thing is to finish the levels, another thing is to finish the game.

I've seen speed demos of the game at http://speeddemosarchive.com/SeriousSamSE.html

And there's 100% demos done by darth hobbit on Seriously (but it's for earlier patch)

I prefer 100% demos, but 100% demos still done at a fast pace, almost non stop where the author doesn't even stop to take a breath.

speedrun shows better arcade-hardcore action and demands a fast clever use of the weapons, player's placement and sometimes a strategic use of the map bugs.
for me it's just boring to watch 4 hours of a hide n' seek serious sam gameplay, like the se nenita's.

Speed running is entirely homosexual. Why pay good money for a game with the sole purpose of completing it as fast as possible?

Maybe you've already completed completely and you want to see how good your skills are by going through it as fast as you can?

If you play SS for first time, of course 100% run, but if you play it for 10th time, you can enjoy speedrun! Why? Because you never run out of enemies You don't have to wander, you just RUN 'N' KILL
Sometimes, on Fridays I open my SSFE, run "Odd World" mod and run thru the game!! (My reconrd was 38 minutes (with all loading time) if I'm not mistaken) Can someone beat me?

I dislike speedruns for the most part (except Half-Life's 45 minutes one). I like to find every little thing in games.
To me it's kindof sad for gamers to want to blow through games as fast as possible.

Meh, running through for a single best scrore is fine but for coop it pisses me off.
Oh they just love to run and leave the mess to clean up or bog the server down but how that is fun I dont understand other than just malicious childish wimzy.

Now, be'n the old dog I am, even I get bent into it at some point as well.
I figure they like to rocket jump over walls they know some shortcuts, but this dog knows some coldcuts and thats no balony.
I have on occation left the server open at one map so no one can proceed then come back later and reopen it just to bend them the way they bent me and I can do it on any server.

Anywho, for coop they should stay and take on the horads together it gets pretty funny sometimes and it much more enjoyable.
If theyre running though it look for another server or start one so they cant run through.

Very true. I've been playing a bit of FE co op recently, and was fed up with idiots speedrunning whilst leaving partners behind. Co-op's supposed to be about...well... co-operation, not holding down "w" and abusing the infinite ammo and respawns. I also have issues with infinite ammo, but that's a story for another thread...

i thought we were talking about demo runs... obviously in a server it's better 100% run than speed; but is better to do 100% run yourself, i think looking at a 4 hours long demo of a stupid 8 years old girl doing slow stuff just to save one useless rocket becomes boring.

Yes, I hate people, who cheats in coop. For ex. I can pass Elephant Atrium in less that 3 minutes using rocket jumps But I don't like to do that, because then you lose all coop fun
But sometimes it's fun, when there are 8 or more people on server and for ex. in Ziggurat, every dude is in different place and kills his/her own enemies

I've just been playing FE co-op, and everyone seems to go for infinite ammo speedruns these days, just spamming the rockets and lasers constantly. Twats.

IMO, if you ever feel the need to speedrun, it's because you're bored of the game and should buy a new one.

People who aren't a part of the speedrunning scene usually find speedrunning quite boring, or they have difficulties understanding the purpose of it. I prefer to make regular speedruns myself, but 100% runs are often a great watch as well since they require a lot of route planning (Metroid 100% runs for example).

Speedrunning is all about beating the machine to a bloody pulp with all means necessary, except using cheat codes. When I did my 1:46:06 run on Quake 4 it wasn't because I liked the game, it was because I hated Raven Software for creating this horrible abomination of Quake and I wanted to beat them by destroying their game, which I did. Yeah, now you might think that I'm a bit insane or something for spending 130 hours beating a game as fast as possible because I hate the maker of the game. Well, insanity is a part of being a speedrunner as well as being very creative. Thinking outside the box is a must when you speedrun a game.

Over at SDA (speeddemosarchive) we have actually started a more serious 100% speedrun project for TFE, and possibly TSE if our eyes aren't destroyed before we get that far (don't worry, we do this run because we like the game). We are actually doing 100% coop runs on Serious difficulty with 9 players, without infinite ammo or allowing respawns. It is actually a nice sight watching 9 players playing according to a strategy to achieve the best time possible, while killing all the enemies and triggering all the secrets.

In case you want to follow the progress keep an eye on this.

Edit: Yes, we are aware that you can't get 100% kills in all levels, but the highest possible will do.

There are some broken spawners in the game indeed.
However, I wonder if the enemy health was increased to 300%?

Enemy strength is at the default value, otherwise there wouldn't be much to gain from a coop run. The norm is that you leave everything at default and just run with that, with the exception of respawning which is never allowed in this kind of run.
