Default Turok 2: Seeds of Evil

Has anyone else played this game? What's your opinion of it?

I've just been reflecting on some of the game's better points. It did several things much better than Serious Sam, such as...

* Excellent weapon design (Mmmm... Cerebreal Bore, Razorwind...)
* Great death animations (Cutting the head off a Raptor and waching it limply wander around for a few seconds, squirting blood from the gorey stump, before collapsing and twitching on the floor)
* Fantastic level setting (setting, not design. Level design left much to be desired, but the settings were great, particularly the Hive of the Mantids)
* Better looking flamethrower (Yeah, on the N64 no less)
* More creative bosses (SS's bosses were good, particularly TSE bosses, but Turok 2's were better - the giant eyeball, the Mother alien...)

Despite these things, Turok 2 isn't, in my opinion, a particularly good game. This is because it had some severe bad points that are simply impossible to ignore:

* Horrible frame rates (Even with the Expansion Pack and the low-rez setting)
* Inane level design (the levels were interesting, but running through them 20 times searching for the fifth power reactor shutdown switch was awful)
* Terrible controls (controlling an FPS with an N64 controller is challenging to begin with, combining that with a poor control scheme can render certain parts virtually unplayable)

I've never tried the PC version, and it might alleviate some of the problems - the poor framerates and bad controls. If anyone has tried it, I'd be interested to know your opinion of it.

Despite the game's bad points, there's something mysteriously appealing about Turok 2 to me. Actually, it's not at all mysterious - it's the part of the game where you can fire a seeking probe at someone that will burrow into their skull and rip out their brain matter while you sit back laughing

i got it bundled in with my video card a few years back, i didn't mind the game, i really liked the explosive arrows.

but i never ended up finishing it, can't remember why.

/edit: btw i wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole on the N64.

Goldeneye was the best fps on 64. I dont see why they didnt just use that control scheme.
I never really had trouble with fps control on N64. I always found them easy to control... except for the double control interface for goldeneye. Man was that tough to use.

FPS on N64 = bad.

I've played them all.

Turok: Dinosaur Hunter
Turok 2: Seeds of Evil
Turok 3 (actually, that's a lie. I don't think anyone played that one, cause I heard it blew ass on rye bread).
Goldeneye
Perfect Dark
Darikatana (another lie, I don't think anyone bought this.. it downright blew for PC so I'd hate to see it with a 3-pronged dildo control scheme).

ok, all of you seem to be talking about turok 2 and others on the N64, but what are your feelings towards it on the PC? in my opinion... a shit load better, but thats gotta be expected, i mean.. for one - better graphics, often when a game goes to console bits get cut out in order for it to fit on the cartridge + on pc you can obviously use the mouse and k/b.
