Exclamation Zombie Modeling Competition!!!

Ok! Here are the official rules of the zombie modeling competition!

- Model's poly count (triangulated) has to be 1800 or less.
- 3D modeler program IS NOT important
- ONE model per competitor.
- You CAN post pic of your progress.
- Models will be judge on the FILE, not the pic.
- You can Texture, but you wont be judge on texture.
- You can animate, but you wont be judge on animation.
- You can post as many pic as you wish. Show off! Add special effects! Influence the judges! But remember, models will be judge on the file only.
- Formats: 3ds, mdl, lwo. No need to be zip. (if you use other format, just tell me how to open it)
- No sign in. Just compete as you wish.
- No price yet. Just the winner satisfaction.

Competition starts NOW! Get down to business people.
Competition ends 30 August 2003! Since it is summer time in most part of the world, and that people gets lazy in summer, I give more than 2 months to do it! No more excuse.

Sent the model to:
lancelot@cgocable.ca

I will be one of the judges. So I will not compete officially, even thought I may make a model for fun. I may not be the best judge there is, but I finished second in the last competition (anyway, you have no choice). I would like to have 2 other judges with me. If youll like to judge, pm me, write me, or post in this thread about it.

For those who want to know why this competition is about zombies, read this:

http://forums.seriouszone.com/s...threadid=30502

For those who missed the first modeling competition:

http://forums.seriouszone.com/s...threadid=29989

Some thoughts:

Some people may wish to use alpha texture on their model for transparency. This use may influence their modeling. Since the model will be judge without texture, I do not recommend this. We are all fairly new to those types of competitions on this forum, and as they may get better in popularity, we might later take those effects in consideration. For now, they are not forbidden, but they are not judged either.

I post here some references for inspirations. Why do I do that? Well, real professional modelers rarely just sit in front of their computer and start modeling. They usually get references, concept art and sketches. So, Im trying to start good habits here by demanding everyone to post their references on this thread, and let everyone use them. Judges will see what they try to achieve with the polygons available. Other may be inspired by one of those references and might participate because of it. We might even end up with a great zombies references pic catalogue. Of course, you may do your own model, but try to make a sketch out of it first. It is a good practice, and it will benefice to everyone.

Last: Participate!!!
Who cares if your model sucks! You cannot be good in everything every time! Take chances and submit a model. You may get bad review, but thats all. Some may praise your model while other may hate it. You will never know if you do not try.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!

Why not start the ball. I am making a simple squelette. Notice that it is textured and inside SS

Yippeee! Hope to participate in this. My question though...Must the zombie necessarily have to be a humna/skeleton? Can it be like say a zombie dog or zombie alien? What are the limits to diversity in a "zombie"? Oh and its good that everything has been pointed out right at the bat with the rules and such, makes the competition move much smoother than last time. Lancelot also, have you seen the current game modeling contest over at CGTALK?

Cyborg: No, you can do whatever you want. The point is to try to post a sketch of what you trying to acheive, just to prove that you have a professionnal approche in modeling. Others may try to do your model, so the point is to do it the best way there is. As for the rules, i read all posts in competition one and took note of all the questions that were asked. It is always easier when you are not the first one.

CGTALK? Never heard of that. Will check.

Vladimir, i did not see any zombie on the page you post...?

Shinker: Your model reminds me of SANTO, the wresler. LOL (with the body of a ninja turtule). Submit it!

I am still looking for 2 judges, if anyone is interrested.

Thanks adversary. Make a model and submit it. No matter how good or bad it is.

Tzax, you are a judge. If you have ideas on how to evaluate the model, let me know. I've never been a modeler judge before. Polygones use will be one of the judged criterias. Overall feel of the model. What else? [edit] Yes, articulations! How well do they work for animation. [/edit] And keep that price handy! (what is it?)

Hm...

I think there should be also a debugging ability criteria (I mean how easy the model's
mistakes can be fixed (if there are any)- if you make the shoes too boxy it's not so
hard to fix them, but if there is a problem with the head...)
Or if you want, each of the judges can have his own criterias.
The price is a silver coin.

Remember that you said animation wont be judged?

To me that sounds paradox.

you know... it just so happens I've been sort of planning to make a zombie-ish guy recently.

Mostly since I've gotten interested in modelling and skinning in Battlefield 1942 (note the interested as in, I haven't actually done anything yet).

You see I've got this idea for like...

A... *big breath* Radioactive Undead Zombie Nazi Pirate!

He has green veins and.... he's a zombie... a nazi pirate zombie for some reason!

a HALF NAKED Radioactive Undead Zombie Nazi Pirate in fact

but I can't really model it though

the trial period in Milkshape ran out... I actually posted 2 topics here asking where to get a serial number but they mysteriously disappeared

the only other thing is gmax.... but that is WEIRD

Well, those threads were probably deleted since that'd be illegal without registration....
Oh, and I could get you a legal serial number for milkshape, just send $50 over to me and I promise you'll get one

exactly

well I actually got a serial number but then it says to wait 2 minutes to complete registration... but nothing happens after 2 minutes and I can't save

If I had broadband though I'd just download 3ds max 5 from Kazaa Lite, it's 500megs.

EDIT: Seanirl, u really aren't that in touch with laws are u hehe

actually it's simple, you CANT use an illegal serial with milkshape once it has expired. it checks online ... your only option is to spend the $10 to buy one ...

a friendly word of warning:
stop posting things about Kazza, illegal downloading of software, and other things like cd-keys / serials.

because it's the sort of thing that is shuned (not liked) around here.

it's simple no matter how many people download things illegally, that doesn't make it legal to talk about it.
