Default Porting the player quotes from HD?

Hey there, Seriously, long time no see.

So, I'm trying to port over the Russian localization of SS TSE HD over to Revolution and I'm facing some problems - namely that Sam's one-liners fail to play when replaced. The console says something about expecting id "data" but finding "PRD" instead in the quote files. Can anyone help me out?

Did you re-encode the wav files, or did you just copypaste them as-is?

Just copypasted. What do I need to re-encode them into?

Couldn't tell you from the top of my head, but you should be able to open any classic .wav file in Audacity and see if you can match the encoding. I think signed 16 bit PCM mono something? Not sure.

I've been looking into alternatives though.

Shouldn't rev be using ogg vorbis? That would give you better audio quality in the backporting process.

Well the default quotes are sill WAVs. And I checked the encoding, it seems the same.

Well it's either wavs or ogg vorbis. They didn't add support for MP3s because of licensing issues.

Did you replace them in the game's folders, or did you place them in a gro file? There's a thing when it comes to Serious Engine 1, and that is, it can't really play sound files, unless your zip archiver is set to have 0 compression when placing them in a gro file (which is really just a renamed zip). That could be a problem.

You can add non-compressed files to a zip with compressed files in it.

Where are these wav files at so I can look at them?

Offtopic: I've remembered that in Oasis level, when you step in the marsh-hopper boss arena, Sam says: "Alright, who want's some"? Now it says "Let's get serious!" Is just me, or this quote never been there before?

This is actually a legal issue. See, a certain big game developer took offense at Serious Sam: The First Encounter, a game with old-school gameplay, a tank top and shades toting badass main character who spouts funny one-liners, since this game developer felt it was infringement on their game series that was last valid five years before. So after a threatened lawsuit Croteam was forced to drop the tanktop and shades for Serious Sam: The Second Encounter and reissues of Serious Sam: The First Encounter. And the "All right, who wants some?" quote, which might have been very close to said game series but was probably meant more as an homage, was forced to be removed as well. Croteam just replaced it with the "Let's get Serious" quote. If you look in the 1_00.gro file, the name is still the same, they just replaced the file but the name is still there so not to mess with the Oasis level.

I've checked this before to write the post, but was curious why.

Considering that, it makes sense how a few things were changed in SS3 as it was released in the same year as the next big game by that certain big game developer. Hellfire is still called "Bombshell" in some of the internal files. I also heard that the Devastator weapon exists solely because the original weapon intended for its place would have also caused problems with that game developer, so was cut (can't say what it was, in case it might return in the future *hint, nudge*). Hell, it's weird that CT could get away with the name "Devastator".

I made a new .gro and uploaded it to Workshop.

Oh really? I'll bear that in mind, thanks. But that's not the problem, because the quotes I ported over from the classic version work perfectly (the classics have different voice translations; in fact, there are THREE different voice translations of TFE (Classic, HD and Fusion, since TSE HD was published by a different company here) and two different TSE translations - Classic is more fun, HD is more faithful. But none of the sods bothered with Legend of the Beast).

Little bit of trivia for you: in the Russian version Hellfire's name is Бомба (The Bomb).
