Default Clown Temple.

I've discovered an issue with my first ever completed map.

Its large wld at 24,280 KB, the map opens and plays fine in the editor, it also plays fine in single player. However multiplayer, I can launch the server and it loads OK but anyone trying to join gets the following message: Expected "DICT" but got "".

The same occurs if someone else starts the server and I try to join?

Anyone any ideas? I'm thinking the wld is just too big for multiplayer.

I don't think it is on the Workshop, here's the post though. The only problem I ran into with Classic TSE is that huge levels take forever to load, but I was still able to play over network (with a 20 MB wld file).

Thanks Scratch and Discy. If you need the gro at a diff host let me know.

Largest one i've played i think was about 11MB.

I did notice that the vis is missing from the gro but looking at other maps they don't seem to need one in Rev. I also noticed that all the textures for the messages are missing in the gro. Still it plays in single so seems a bit odd.

Also tried extracting the gro on all pc's to ensure the version was the same and deleted all other instances of the map on all pc's. This was done on a lan and checked all FW's to be set the same, in this case full out and incoming for Sam rev.

Not sure what else to check.

I made a 60MB level in Rev before, but it's never been tested online.

Also, it had fairly long loading time and was also quite glitchy, like blocky movement and stuff.

60MB just wow!!!! Largest I've done is 48MB and that ran OK but i started to get issues due to the file size. You did well to get it to 60

Lots and Lots of brushes, also had over 16K entities as well. (Also detailed shadows) What can I say, I put alot of work into Sub Space Odyssey.

Besides, CAHEK's Space Contest map was I think 52-58MB as well, though it was unfinished.

Well its not the size of the map I've found that I can't play any custom maps in multiplayer - they all report missing files to any one that tries to join. They all work fine in single player.

All players are subscribed to the workshop items but it still reports that files are missing - usually the .tbn.

I've looked at the gro for clown temple and the tbn was missing - I've added it to the gro and updated on steam. Also fixed a few issues and tweaked here and there.

That's weird, this definitely sounds like a bug to me. There's two thumbnails:

Filename.tbn is generated by the editor on saving and is used by the editor's VirtualTree browser. FilenameTbn.tex has to be handmade, is preferred by the game and is used in the Custom Level browser.

In Classic you can just omit the .tbn file in favor of the Tbn.tex file, although neither are necessary. Without both of them the game just says: "No thumbnail" in the Custom Level list. This is definitely a SamRev bug to be reported to Scratch.

Revolution prefers .tbn over Tbn.tex wherever possible, including autodownloader.

Sounds to me like something that should be fixed for legacy's sake. 90% of the Classic custom maps uses Tbn.tex or nothing.

But why? The editor generates .tbn files when saving, not Tbn.tex.

I know, my point is that .tbn files aren't required for Classic. And because of the backwards compatibility the absence of any thumbnail shouldn't cause problems in Rev either since a lot of pre-Rev custom maps lack .tbn files. It's fine to prefer .tbn over Tbn.tex, but creating problems that weren't in the Classic games isn't preferable.

When was that changed then? I don't remember the editor ever generating Tbn.tex files for saved maps, but maybe that's because I only really used the editor in TSE back in the day.

I added a .tbn to the gro manually and now it plays in multiplayer without issue. The editor has always saved a .tbn automatically when you save. Not sure if that is what you are discussing here? Once i have the thumbnail i want to keep I set it to read only. Prevents me from overwriting it accidentally.
