Default Contest : A Simple Terrain Area!

Yeah, here it goes again, the power of simplicity...


Simple Terrain Area Competition


This contest is simple (once again) : make a terrain by yourself, and add some stuffs to make it more lively! (Eg. Sounds, enemies, lights, decorations, etc) There is NO restriction to what you add! Of course, no porn, no copyright stuff...

The contest starts today! Deadline is on 30/03/07!



Rules:
1. The terrain must be made by yourself, and must not be bigger than 200mx200mX200m(See this tut to learn how to measure your terrain)
2. If you want to add a hut or something, you cannot have more than one storey.New!
3. You cannot use CT's model for your terrain model. However you can use them for decoration of your terrain or others. (in other words, the terrain must be made by yourself).
4. You cannot finalize your terrain model.
5. The map cannot be more than 40MB (after zipped or RARed, or both)
6. You know the forum rules...
7. You can add interior rooms as well (like temple, a building...), but it must be on the terrain, NOT outside it. New!
8. You must have a directional light (unless when it is night). New!
9. You CAN do caves, but the cave IS NOT a terrain, so you cannot use it as a terrain for this contest.New!


No registration is required, just join when you want to, but remember the deadline. Submit your map by PM. You may post screens of your map in this thread. I hope I haven't miss anything...

My problem with terrains? I used to be able to draw the textures good but I could never keep it this way because it'd reset itself when I come back to SED2 and look like a blank terrain with the first texture all over

Now I can't texture terrains properly at all. Sometimes it's won't work and other times I can't texture it without getting parts I don't want done, textured

twl, does terrain needs to be done in sed, or can we make it in maya or blender, and then import it?

I might participate in this. I'm not too bad IMO at making terrains so far, I've always made my own terrains for my maps (and for NWN 2 modules--- basically the same terrain editor as in SED2 but more features and user-friendly).

I'll try to make some kind of a lost valley By the way,

Glad to hear that, though that means one less judge... But I still prefer to have more submissions than judges.

Easy. Create terrain shader. Create new mask texture and make it Transparent/32-bit. Save it somewhere. Choose UVmap in VM->T ("Default" uvmap usually). Press "n" to activate paint tool. select your saved mask texture and paint the terrain. A channel goes for 1 TEXTURE, B for 2 TEXTURE, etc..
Notice that if you have a background, disable it when painting terrain in order to see the brush (SEd2's bug).

And yes, of course I will take part in this contest (event I haven't read the rules yet! But i'm heading for it now!! )

You forgot that it should be always set on Atlas Mapping.

Not necessarily. But more place UV map takes, higher quality it will be I use DEFAULT uvmap (or apply Fit UV on Y axis)

If I can get the crumbs working on my contest map, then I'll finish it for sure. I've got loads of custom textures to use in it. (I'll also add a secret "gallery room" to the map, with beautiful pictures of forests, lakes and islands in Finland, it'll be a little tour around our country ).

WHOA Deepblue!! Looks AWESOME!! A very original idea, I can't wait for you to finish because this map looks very promising man! There kinda should be some arcade elements. I suggest you to put Golden Coins over those craters so player could jump over them to reach treasure, hehe
