This line intersection algorithm is great.

http://flassari.is/2008/11/line-line...-in-cplusplus/

I also managed to fix a collision bug that was around since the first Super Serious Bros. version in February.

And the idea came the same way like for the 2D light, by going to sleep too early. Human brain is a strange thing

OK, let's get serious !

http://i1102.photobucket.com/albums/g448/antoniorsoftware/ar_gnaarm2.gif

With all the limitations my 2D art and animation department needs to work with, I think this doesn't look so bad This is not a sprite sheet, it is a "skeletal" gnaar made of 9 sprites.
I think I will have to make some kind of skeletal animation editor in the future.

Edit: This guy can hold dual uzi's too

Easy 7 ways:

1- Make an editor.
2- The editor will create game editor.
3- With game editors you can create editors for resources.
4- With each editor you can make a game element.
5- When you all finish them put into an editor.
6- This editor will compile it into the game editor.
7- Viola! A new game!

Thank you for the support, but let's face it:

I just don't have what it takes to make an actual game. I don't have the necessary knowledge nor do I have ideas to make it fun. I am a joke

A wolfenstein clone where you travel through hall ways and beat people with the purple plastic penises of doom.

5 stars from IGN. "It sure beats Call of Duty" they'd say.

No new stuff, so I will post some old stuff instead.

Here you can see:
- three different SS enemy types, all use skeletal animation,
- use of line intersection algorithm for enemy sight. Enemies below don't see me so they are idle, those above are in attack mode (different animation),
- WIP HUD - shows energy, current weapon and its ammo (left), ammo of all weapons (right), and weapon selection stuff (up-left).
http://img607.imageshack.us/img607/9045/43135005.jpg

- collision box and bones/skeleton (I forgot to render the joints).
Not only can I now see the skeleton, when a enemy is hit I can check which "bones" are hit. This makes decapitation and similar stuff possible.
http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/8305/93789143.jpg

- a 1960's shooter game ,
- purple line is not showing players weapon, instead it shows the line between weapons rotation axis and end of barrel. No matter the rotation, when you fire, the bullet and muzzle are positioned pixel perfectly. Before it was all over the place,
- a console with input (for cheats and some stuff).

Great stuff man! You write pretty good code and now you can play nicely with parameters.

Getting pretty advanced man May be my idea for implying complex physics wasn't so far fetched after all

Oh, don't say that. There is plenty of talent and fun in 2D art styled games and ide scroll shooters. Look at Super Meat Boy - Very successful, yet so simple. Take a look at Double D - Not as successful, but fun as hell and looks brilliant. And form I've played from you, you got what it takes. You just need a budget to buy tools and etc. I love your work man. You're no joke.

@M/CP: Thanks. I am not planning to be next Jonathan Blow or Edmund McMillen, a 5-10 minute game that would be enough fun for people to actually finish it would be good enough

Except the lack of ideas, the biggest problem is that I am reinventing the wheel all the time, I just don't know how to design some stuff. For example problem is how to store all the game data, from key bindings to textures and skeleton data.

It is very clumsy when everything is "hard coded" and you need to recompile the game when you change the characters width for example. I am trying to store some stuff in .txt files, but then you need to figure out how to read it when the game loads and how to store that data so it is available while the game runs. So basically, I end up rewriting same code all the time.

(A scripting language could solve some stuff here, but that means learning a whole new language from scratch. And even then the code would not design and write it self.)

Another example are sprites that are connected in game, e.g. a switch that opens a certain door. It is easy to connect them when you make a map in the editor, but that connection also needs to be somehow stored in the maps file and then recreated when the level loads.

All this stuff seems simple when you play a game, but figuring out how to make it yourself proves to be quite challenging.

Very, very interesting. I still have faith in you man, just keep up your hard work.

And why are you so upset about reinventing the wheel all of the time? What do you think Croteam does! Haha

Exclamation Re: AntonioR's Showcase Thread - 2D Games

It is exactly one year since I finished/released SS 2D The Last Game Hero.

I visited all my download links, and numbers say that the game was downloaded 477 times via my links and 219 times on serioussite.ru . The game was also on some warez sites, but since it weren't my links I don't know the numbers. Youtube video statistics say it was popular on a Thailand warez site

If I had the knowledge I have now it would have been a bit better, since back then I didn't even understand how the engine works, and now I almost rewrote most of it.

For example, I didn't know screen and game sprites were updated with different timers, and that sprites also had some timers. That is why some bullets fly much slower than I wanted. I didn't know how to flip a texture, so I made right and left textures for almost everything, increasing the size of the game by double. Also, the game actually isn't compiled properly

My level editor is finally tile based, before everything was "fake".
