There is a new Half-Life (binary)compatible engine. Based on Xash3D engine, called Sing-Engine.

For HL1.

http://code.google.com/p/sing-engine/

Everything about Xash 3D Engine you can find at Moddb.

Shadow Warrior 2 was just announced!

Didn't expect Flying Wild Hog to release another SW game, and I definitely loved the first game.

Now I feel more hyped for the Shadow Warrior 2 game than Doom 4 for some reason.

I JUST CAN'T CONTAIN THE HYPE ANY LONGER FOR SW2!!! X)

That's because, compared to Bethesda, FWH is much less likely to fuck up.

I thought SW2 was released a while ago? I've recently played SW1, and it was good. I bought Wolf: New Order and they promised a doom 4 beta. Still haven't got it yet. 1 year already. And a few days... And no beta. Not even a full blown trailer...

Yeah, I would LIKE to like SW games from FWH, but I just cant, because of the need for dumb triple key combo's.
If they would just make it 1 key to eat souls, and 1 key for the other things that require a sequence of keys to do, I think I would like the game MUCH more.
Hard Reset was done right. (but, it was also PC only).
SW was just done wrong, in the keys department (obviously a decision for controllers).

It actually wasn't a decision for controllers, as the game only existed for PC for like a year or so. It was a conscious decision, to make the battles fast, but not too OP to just have a single key for every move. It is obvious from the way the moves work: They are not super difficult combinations just tapping forward twice and LMB or RMB. Basically one more key push than the usual thing you do in every FPS (forward+LMB).
The execution works -perfectly- from a gameplay standpoint. Better than being an octopus to handle 8 different keys for 8 different skills.

Not when you use the right side of the keyboard, and use Rmouse for forward.
It makes it nearly impossible to play.

....what kind of backwards control is that? Even for left handers, that's weird. You're really playing games the ways they were not supposed to be played it seems, then complain about it.

Well, if you were a gamer in the early 90's, on pc, you only used the keyboard to play.
And, as time went on (late nineties), they introduced the mouse to games.
Most FPS gamers at that time used the arrow keys and mouse to play, and most got used to the mouse using Rmouse as forward (it was easier to charge forward AND aim at the same time).
Now usher in new gaming in the early 2000's, which STILL held the gaming mechanics of the late 90's, and you still have the same layout and keyboard keys used.
Then, came the consoles outselling pc, and keyboard/mouse layouts went to shite. Everyone went to one stock setting: WASD
But by this time, early gamers are now in their late 30's/early 40's, and have been using the same layout for 20 years.
Old dogs do not learn new trix.
Especially left handers, and large handed people (who have a tendency to mash 3 keys while only trying to mash 1).

So, say its my fault, but I blame the pc gaming industry for changing the way they did things for 20+ years. Same as they changed fov to consoles/tv 10-15 feet away, instead of monitors 2 feet away.

Adapt or die you say?
Well, I have been dying for 7 years now, but still fighting for what used to be standards.

And, there you have it.

I was such a gamer, but when the change to WSAD came, I gladly went along, because it was so much better and easier to use. And back then, I didn't use mouse for moving, I used pure keyboard and turning with the arrow keys (and A was jump and Y/Z crouch, wow).

Half-Life, and even SS1 in the 1999-2000 alpha already used WSAD and mouse. Meaning, that whole "move with the mouse" thing was never even a standard of playing, maybe for 2-3 years; but even then, I never in my life encountered such a control scheme. You're probably the only person I ever heard of who actually chose to use that inferior, hard-to-use control scheme.

Also, technically, consoles always outsold and outteched the PC until around the 2000s.

I also started playing Counter Strike in internet clubs because I didn't have my own PC and started with arrow keys, but I eventually moved to WASD, found it more practical, as I had a lot of other keys right next to my fingers for all the other functions like selecting weapons and using radio commands and stuff

Same here. Initially I was keyboard only (even as late as the 1999-2000 mark), then went to arrow keys + mouse and finally the scheme I have used to this day: WASD + mouse. Never, ever heard of or encountered anyone using "move with the mouse".

Heh.
Look at The Witcher 3 forums.
LOTS of people complaining, until they fixed mouse binding to movement (although they only fixed Rmouse, Lmouse still cant change to movements).

Here are my key bindings (and believe me, lots of people use this):
Rmouse = Forward
Lmouse = Shoot/Fire
UpArrow = Switch weapon up
LArrow = strafe left
Rarrow = strafe right
DownArrow = backwards/stop/brake
End = aim/scope
Delete = grenade (or similar)
Pagedown = mele (or similar)
Numpad0 = use/activate
Numpad1 = reload
Numpad4 = a frequently used option, depends on the game
Numpad7 = usually flashlight, or something not commonly used
Rctrl = jump
Rshift = sprint/run/walk
Enter = use inventory item
Home = prone/horse/ (or similar, common used)
Pageup = a frequently used option, depends on the game
Insert = a frequently used option, depends on the game
Mouse button 3 = a frequently used option, depends on the game
Mouse button 4 = a frequently used option, depends on the game
Mouse button 5 = a frequently used option, depends on the game

I am actually having to play a LOT of the new games with UpArrow = Forward now though, as most games wont let you rebind mouse buttons for forward anymore (mostly rpg's, but some shooters also).

I also just bought the Logitech G13, since I am starting to play rpg's, and I need many more keys:

Why is that still a problem today? Arbitrary restrictions on key binds is pointless and can harm the experience for players with specialized schemes or mobility disabled players.

...Is that scheme made for people with at least three hands? I get that it seems to be a left handed scheme, but the keys seem to be needlessly spread out and complicated.

Large hands.
I need the keys spread out, so I dont mash 3+ keys at the same time.
I am 6 foot 3 inches, and can easily palm a basketball.

Huh, interesting. I'm the same size.

Nowadays, I can kinda understand that, as my new keyboard is smaller than my old, and I usually press caps lock instead of shift, but I always thought I have large hands, because I couldn't use those new phones with touchscreens until I got a large one. How large is it? Because overall, I have no issues with keyboards.

Anyways, besides this, E3 is starting/started/will soon start. You will be able to follow it at http://www.twitch.tv/twitch.

Apparently the "first" conference will be Bethesda at 7pm PDT. (around 3-4am for EU)
