Post your thoughts and stuff about DOOM here!

YouTube Video: and then skeletons popped out

How successful will Doom 4 be? Will it thrive among the youths of today, or only with those who loves the classics?

Personally I don't think it will fare well, mostly because of "They changed it, now Doom is ruined forever", "outdated formula" and especially "Where's my deep well thought out open world RPG that lets me explore the vast medieval/nuclear landscape?"

Still gonna buy it though.

Not many thoughts yet as they showed us nothing yet, but if Wolfenstein: The New Order is any indication, it will be well made.

They lack a number, this looks like it's Doom 1, that's a minus for me..

Usually the community comes to the rescue when mouth-breathing air headed morons give stuff names, like how we turned Xbox One into Xbone. Of course it would be most desirable if games had distinct names to begin with so that it wouldn't become annoying and inconsistent to search for either game on-line.

It saddens me that in most Doom 4 threads and videos people bitch about next Fallout or Skyrim. No love for Doom

Since I never played the originals I wouldn't mind they make this one similar to the originals (even though I really liked Doom 3).

With the >10 seconds of footage I can only comment on the visuals and they are not impressive technically and artistically. It almost looks like Borderlands.

Edit: I don't know why people would be bitching about Fallout. There's so much evidence that Fallout 4 is being released this E3.

It's been 7 years since the last Bethesda developed Fallout.

There was a job description for a position that involves a "cinematic trailer" for Fallout 4.

There's a rumor of a 20-30 minute demo behind closed doors that may even be playable.

Bethesda is having it's first press conference this year and they would probably want a major announcement to coincide with it.

And for the last few years there have been sporadic albeit less credible hints towards Fallout 4's existence.

When it comes to the originals I have only briefly played the first one. It's heresy, I know. I would like another game like Doom 3 but I know I'm alone on that one LOL. I understand their desire to return to a more fast paced action game but they can still expand upon the excellent atmosphere 3 had.

Storywise I don't know how they could expand Doom 3 other than bringing the hell to Earth or something, which Doom 4 will probably be.

Not sure if we will see a good Doom anymore.

Cause Bethesda owns now id Software.

Btw Doom 3 is no 1:1 remake of Doom 1, so i doubt that Doom 4 will take place on Earth.
Doom 3 should be a remake of D1 and is heavy inspired from D1, but Doom 3 is no D1 remake.

Doom 1 never took place at Planet Mars f.e.

Apparently this was Doom 4 before they canned it and started working on the current version:

https://vid.me/70wz Turn off audio !

If you remember the articles it was supposed to be a Call Of Duty inspired cinematic experience. This would be a huuuge disappointment IMO.

The only direction for Doom 4 to go is hell on earth. I think we had enough of Mars. Id be surprised if it isnt hell on earth, because the impaled man in the background in the Revenant's scene suggest it is.

It'd great if they can keep the atmosphere of Doom 3 but with the pace of Doom 2.

Yes I do, and IMO the atmosphere and the way the story was unfold in that game can not be set apart from each other. You remove the part where you try to figure out the back story and what the hell is going on and what you get is... something like Quake 4, but without all the marines.

We didn't see too much of Mars in Doom 3, most of the time it was just metal corridor after metal corridor. Heck we didn't even experience the gravity of Mars in Doom 3.

Mars is basically Valley of the Kings without the trees and Egyptian stuff though. Still, why a Red Terrain when you can go with Hell-torn Earth? Like how Doom 3 is a spiritual reboot of Doom 1, Doom 4 should be a spiritual reboot of Doom 2 too. Plus the original Doom 4 was already set in Hell on Earth (itself being a sequel to Doom 3), I'm guessing they might be reusing assets. It's about time they redeem themselves with proper city levels that actually look like cities and not fortresses. The world needs more city levels in FPS.

If Doom 4 takes places at Earth its another way of showing us how Bethesda disrespect Doom series.

I guess that Bethesda now tries makes a Brand of Doom series.

I mean the originals are perfect playable in Source Ports like ZDoom, Doomsday Engine, DosBox and a few others.

Community works at HD Textures & Models.

If id the original Developer, now closed and totally owned by Bethesda, it is a different thing.

Remaking now Doom 2 to milk the Series, i think Doom doesn't deserve that.

New Scenarios should be possible to create on any other Planet. I mean spawning Monsters from another Dimension or Hell at this place, it is not like trying to Rewrite a Shakespeare Book.

But game industry & FPS genre had been perverted since 2009.

Spiritual Reboot BUT NO 1:1 remake of Doom 1.

Btw, Merging now Maps of other games into Doom 3 won't work & brings us anywhere.

But has there been another Hell on Earth FPS other than Doom 2? And I don't mean alien invasions, I mean actually demons, with proper fast-paced gameplay.

I'm sure.

Also you can say about Games with Zombies, that Zombie are some sort of Hellish creatures.

Legendary f.e. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legendary_%28video_game%29

2nd half of FarCry 1 , creatures which breaks out of a laboratory.

Settings with Apocalypse referring to the Bible too. And hell is part of Christian Belief.

You have to admit that the Hell level was pretty cool. It was easily the best part of the game.

But it (Hell) was still better then walking 10 minutes at Mars.

No Outside Areas in Doom 3 too, but Doom series lacks in general of good Outside Areas.

This is why Doom 4 needs to rectify this, to let us enjoy a proper city level corrupted by demons. If done right, the scenery would be breathtaking.

AFAIK those were simply limitations of the tech they used.
