dskchk would probably have caught and fixed that error, the weirdest things can happen to the file system some times.

I found Dead Space rarely scary but I did find it twisted and gross at times, chapters 5 and 6 in particular stand out.

The macabre makes me hard, but I rarely found Dead Space disturbing or gross.

I guess Pan and I are just wimps then Probably the biggest contribution to the fear for me is actually due to the continual mouse lag/sensitivity issues. The D3DOverdrive helped quite a bit, but I still find my mouse sensitivity getting sluggish during action sequences, but not as noticeable. So I end up having to stress trying to find the source of the noises I am hearing.

And maybe scary isn't the right word... More like "Three monsters jump out of vents all around me and I have to tackle the mouse issues to encapacitate them all before they reach me and kill me." Like I said the mouse issues are far better than before, but it is still a struggle.

Also, I find it imperative to wear headphones while playing scary games to add to the experience

When playing games like Serious Sam sound speakers are a must. You set them to ~max and when the werebulls are charging the whole desk shakes. You can't get that with headphones

I also disagree. I play with headphones and the sound remains top notch.

I think it's more likely that Brute and Fiendian are just oddities. When Dead Space was released, I remember it being praised as one of the scariest games to come out in recent times. I found it pretty scary, too.

It should get easier to handle as you progress. I find that scary games become less scary the more you play them because you start learning their tricks and become more accustomed to their atmosphere.

The part I found the grossest / most disturbing was the part where you
have to hunt down people who were mutated and (IIRC) producing toxic gases. I could be wrong about the gases part, but they were grossly disfigured, immobile people that you had to find and kill.

Worst part of the game Viper, totally made me check every corner EXTRA carefully and stand still waiting for something to happen.

+1 to using headphones. Haven't used speakers ever since I got a good quality headset.

As for horror games, I like subtle horror and mind games (hallucinations, imaginary sounds, paranoia) much better than straight pop up gore. Nothing weird about seeing dismembered corpses; that's what you see in nearly every shooter, it's the presentation that counts. Finding out you're (major Walking Dead spoilers)
eating live human food that's alive and scrambling across the floor right next to you looking at them eat him, who was a former friend of yours even
was way more disturbing in the Walking Dead for instance, because you didn't expect it and you had a connection to that character.

The Spec Ops: The Line demo is great! It lets you try 3 full levels of the game out for free. About 30~60mins of gameplay worth. Now that's a demo I'm used to playing! hahaha

Glad I bought Spec Ops: The Line. Not only is it a smooth as hell TPS, but it's got a pretty great story and I feel like the gameplay is flawless. It's a corridor/arena military shooter so unless you like that sorta thing, don't pick it up. It's got a bit of replayability as well.

I also picked up spec ops the line.
Not too bad a game (not groundbreaking or great though either).
Can rebind ANY key on kb/mouse. Very nice.
Not many pc options though.

And running fov gets closer? wtd? Default fov is ok (still would like a little wider), but running fov actually make the fov less. Garrrrrr
That bothers me eyes/head.

Other than that, not too bad.

EA Explains Why Co-Op Was Included in Dead Space 3

Just... wow... I think the author's editorial fits my thoughts perfectly. Oh well, at least coop is just an option and I can still solo play.

Razer has great mice, and great keyboards; kinda expensive but, hey, it's worth it.

The controllers on the other hand, **** those things.

First I bought a unsealed Onza, the left analog stick went fubar and it couldn't forward anymore (it would just go backwards or forward or not at all). It was under warranty so I got a brand new sealed replacement, yay!

Yesterday, as I was playing Recettear, suddenly the same damn thing happened again to the new controller! What the flippin burgers Razer?! This one is under warranty too, but this is getting annoying...

I wonder if it's some sort of software problem that could be fixed with a firmware update... I find it hard to believe that two controllers that are supposed to be freaking robust (I mean, Xbox players get pissed off and rage on controllers right? They're designed to last... aren't they?) would suffer from the same damn problem like this... Eh, maybe it's just my luck.

Edit: Yea, apparently this is a well known problem with the controllers... (And even affects the fancier more expensive Tournament Edition ones. FFS Razer...)

My mate Lime bought me a Razer mouse for my birthday. He used my mouse for like 10 seconds and just cursed at it for like, an hour. Then he got me this one and I realised what all the hubub was about. Cheap mice and good mice are different for sure.

I would seriously suggest just picking up an Xbox 360 controller. They definitely do last, they're the most comfortable controllers I've ever had, and many games today have built-in support for them (with things like on-screen button prompts that show icons for the actual button).

I got my Xbox 360 back in 2006 and the controller that came with it still works fine. The worst that happens is that *occasionally* the left thumbstick will stick in an ever-so-slightly angled position, which could make your character slowly drift off in a random direction. But that rarely happens and hasn't been an issue for me. Considering the controller is close to 6 years old now, I'm pretty darn happy with it.

I got a 360 controller built for PC use but doubles as a 360 controller. I dunno how that works. I mean wouldn't that just made it a 360 Controller with pc support?

Xbox 360 controllers are very comfy and respond great, but I wouldn't exactly say they're durable. I'm very careful with them, and yet the left joystick always seems to break fairly quickly.

"Official" 360 controllers always have PC support, though. You just plug it in and it's good to go.

So basically it's just a standard 360 controller.

Interesting. Can't say I've had the same experience with them. One of us could be an oddball... wonder which one?

I play a lot of games that put intense pressure on the joystick. Examples include Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden, which require rapid 360 rolls of the joystick frequently to execute many attacks and moves.

Still, I feel they shouldn't break so fast.

The Razer Onza *IS* a Xbox 360 controller. It uses the exact same drivers and whatnot, it just has some custom parts, like mechanical buttons instead of membrane buttons, which are f-in awesome; if only it didn't have this stupid Left Analog stick affliction... I hope at least they fixed it for good in the later generations.

Erhm, aren't all 360 controllers natively supported on PC since Windows Vista onwards? (Or is it just Windows 7 onwards?).

Ah, guess it's just a question of durability then. Sorry bout that.
