YES! WHAT PAN SAID!

And the gameplay itself, try to solve puzzle, die, die, get a few ideas, die some more, finally solve the puzzle, then die. Death everywhere! I don't like dying that much in a video game

Besides, isn't the point of the game to inspire a feeling of loneliness, sadness, like you're in Limbo? I think it does that quite well.

The demo didn't seem that depressing to me. I thought it was more like amusing to watch myself fail so many times and get the guy drowned or otherwise killed in the most horrible ways possible (gibbed by bear traps, eaten by spider etc).

Amnesia is far more depressing and mentally challenging...

I guess some of you get depressed too easily... When I fail in a game constantly I get frustrated and angry, but never depressed. That one is reserved for real life...

You take my idea of depressing too literally.

So I love that Gamefly provides you with a CD Key so that you can completely bypass their download client and activate the product directly from Steam.

Well... This morning I saw that the first Assassin's Creed download was on sale for only $5 on the GameStop website and got excited. But before taking the plunge I decided to do a bit of research on GameStop's download service. Apparently their CD Keys aren't valid through Steam and therefore their download service, Impulse, is required to download the game. Bummer, looks like I will just wait for an official Steam sale. I like to keep my unnecessary programs to a minimum, and choose to use only Steam for digital distribution.

Rock Paper Shotgun did an excellent article a while ago on the subject of the download services, there are so many of these services and their accompanying software that it is just ridiculous. I can't find this article again from a quick search, unfortunately.

I hated Limbo for being so damn depressive. I mean, they expressed the feeling of nothingness and being alone in nothingness so well, that I didn't like it.

It's a great game from a fancy artistic point of view, but it's by far the most depressive thing I've ever played.
I agree that it's one of the most depressing game experiences I've had, but that's what I loved most about it. The dark and dreary atmosphere really bears down on you. But I think that lets up after the first 1/3rd of the game or so, which left me pretty disappointed. The first part of the game is fantastically atmospheric, but the rest of it is mostly just straight puzzle solving.

@ Finzy: Amnesia doesn't strike me as a depressing kind of game... at all. Scary, sure, but depressing is something else entirely.

No one's talking about clinical depression. It's a mood. Games / art are meant to make you feel a certain way.

Maybe you should try it then, because it does get really much more depressing at least later on. Constant mutilated bodies and endless torture methods which...
you are to blame for
, and the whole soundscape of the game, was pretty damn depressing to me. Not in the same way some kind of loner game might be about sadness, but seeing all that suffering and the same dread music / haunted sounds everywhere made you feel mentally depressed and fatigued (and reading various forums there were lots of people who reported the same, up to the point where they couldn't bring themselves to play the game at all anymore). At least if you can allow yourself to get fully immersed into the game.

Of course, now that I've played the game much more I've gotten used to its little tricks, but around the first walkthrough I did, I had to take breaks to conserve my own sanity now and then.

That's inspiring, not depressing. I love torture and physical mutilation.

Some people get depressed when they are disturbed.
I generally don't, though on occasion I suppose I do.
Not from a game, however.

Yeah, I haven't played it so I can't really say one way or another. Limbo's depressing atmosphere is front-and-center in its trailers and even screenshots. I just never felt that way about Amnesia, is all.

In Limbo's case, I don't think so. Limbo is both disturbing and depressing if you ask me, both for different reasons. Limbo gave me the impression it has a bit of an obsession with death, given all the ways the main character can die and the cold manner in which those deaths are portrayed. It certainly enhances the depressing mood, but if you took away all the death and other disturbing elements, I still think it would have mostly the same depressing atmosphere.

Check out this little game called Gateways. It is a mixture of Portal, Braid and some other platformers I am not even aware of...

What I am most afraid it could happen to HL3 (except not being made in my lifetime) is that it could have a 2 player coop campaign similar to what they did with Portal 2.
