![]() Cel-shaded maps sound awesome, I'd like to try them out sometime as well. The only thing that makes it complicated would be custom textures, but otherwise I think people should be able to finish them on time. (Actually they shouldn't need to be cel-shaded, just using cartoony textures would do).

![]() How about we don't actually have a contest as such (with deadlines that sorta thing), but we pick a theme, make a map or two and just show off?
With judging, it'd take too long to make sure everyone has finished and we just end up with another failed attempt Face it, everyone has different mapping speeds and some find it harder than others to get their ideas fully off the ground Infact a "pass the map" would be easier since there's no deadline and you just have to wait for one person rather than a group before it can continue on |

![]() This contest did have a pretty long deadline (over two months), and since most people hadn't even started making their map in that time, I don't think that's the case. Even the previous contests succeeded even though they had much shorter deadlines.
I think it's more a case of having picked the wrong theme and this community running out of mappers/inspiration. I guess just making a classic Serious Sam map would've worked out better.

![]() Having a regular Sam theme is better because it can span through any months
The horror theme was really only for October It just doesn't feel right making a horror map on Christmas ![]() Theme for next competition? "and now for something completely different" Basically making a map that's in no way similar to CroTeam's stuff Whether it's the theme of the map or even the graphics (like Cel-shading for example) Gameplay too It can be strange or serious and new enemies,vehicles, sounds, music and textures are more than welcome New models for architecture are a must though, bonus points for not using any of CroTeam's architecture models at all (Textures are ok) Last edited by Deepblue; 12-23-2008 at 01:24 PM. |

About wrong themes... well, dynamic lighting support in SE2 is pretty poor, so imo, it is pretty hard to make a good horror or even a spooky map. If we compared now and during the contest era, the amount of mappers left in this community are basically the same. Unwary Thief is one who didn't even bother making an official announcement about working on his maps for the contest. ![]() Well there are quite a few people who outright quite mapping with the first editor before the second was released
Toastar for example, he only made SS1 maps and stopped before SS2 was released Most of these people just didn't want to start up again, let alone learn a completely new editor That might be the reason why we don't have as many mappers here as we once did |
