Default a little project 8-D

well me and pepper are cleaning out my garage, not just because we have to, but because we want to.

our idea is to get everything out of the back of the garage and totally clean it out (also meaning throwing stuff out...right now like 2 tables lots of wood and about 100 other odd things) once we clean out the garage we plan to plaster it, paint it, and build a wall (an actually wall of a house kinda, with studs and plywood and stuff) then build a door leading to our little place in the back, our room will be carpeted, have a tv, a couch, a table and a few chairs....hopefully we will be able to run cable into it from peppers house (right across a double driveway) and get cable and maybe cable for a computer we might put in there

i dunno, i just had to tell somone else, oh ya! i forgot we are hopfully gettin a fridge and all kinds of stuff, it will be our own little place.

comments? questions? suggestion (please)?

i hope we wil be able to compleat this thing, it will be awsome if we do

That sounds cool, kinda like a club house. Just make sure no one will break in and steal the computer somehow.

always remember that a 2x4 is actually 1 3/4 x 3 3/4

That will haunt you if you forget

I did kinda the same thing a while back and we now use the new room as abedroom and the old room is now an office.

only problem is that the garage verys in temperature alot.

but u use 2x4 for studs? u know, the things like every 5 feet (?)
i dunno, ill ask my dad...he is really good with this stuff.

edit: oh and what would be the most cost effeciant way to make a wall...i was thinking either like a framework then drywall, or framework then prywood with some pain and stuff

if u really want cheap, but sturdy, use #2 grade studs and rough grade 1/2 in. plywood. just be sure you use insulation in the walls and put the studs on 16 in. centers. that will give u a good wall and help with the temp. variations. after u got the wall up, paint with primer, then paint it whatever color u want. any wiring (elect. or cable needs to be run before you get the walls enclosed. a good website for do-it-yourselfers is diynet.com or go to hgtv.com and that site has links to all kinda building tip sites. wish u luck!!

We did 2x4 framing, with 3/8" ply to the outside, insulation, sheetrock and plaster to the inside. (I worked as a plasterer in a past life, drywall is easier to finish.) be sure to have someone experienced to run wiring for you. And if you need any network cables, coax, or telephone wire, now is the time to place them.

Good Luck!

yeah, i didnt think the wall was supposed to be that permenant anyways, and the garage acctually has decent temperature control cause its partially under ground...

yup, my cable will definently need a booster but hey it will mean 71 channels that nothing good is ever on out in the garage...
