IMPORTANT INFO!

I have fixed the last two bugs in my map. And because of the thing that the webmaster hasn't added my level to the filesystem, I will now give you the link to the now really 1000% completed file.

Here is the link: http://files.filefront.com/rc_strang.../fileinfo.html

@ Serious Spoon:
Can you please upload THIS file instead of the other? Please tell the webmaster that he shall kill the old file I've sended to him and replace it with this.

If I don't get a response within 7 days, I will resubmit the file.

@ Wytas: What exactly do you mean?

Introducting the new territory:
http://img61.imageshack.us/img61/9762/031307newterritorynd2.jpg

Please notice, that it is still work-in-progress but it will deliever you a reliably reference point what I'm going to do with it.
You may recognize that part from a game which name currently doesn't comes into my mind but in fact, I've chosen this because it is a perfect test and it just fits into my concept

Please don't say that I am a copier! This isn't absolutely NOT TRUE. In fact, I've created this model two months ago but it hadn't fit into ST P1. So this is the last model I "copy" (if you want to call it so )

I am going to make my next own model the next weeks.

Hmm... yes, so I would call this.

@ Wytas: Thanks man

@ Deepblue: Are you experienced with creating shadowmaps? The reason, why the territory looks full bright, is actually that I don't have created a shadowmap, because something is screwed up with the model, so the shadowmap looks so shitty that I have deleted it. Can you please add shadowmap to it? That would be very nice

Two walls, some random items and trees...

Do you really think this is worth showcasing? Have you spent at least 6 hours on this?

I could take a look at it too, just PM me the map. But try learning to do the shadowmaps by yourself, it will save you more time and gives you more control over the lightning

Remember, for terrain it is 2 shade texture, and 2 shade uvmap, not 3 texture and 3 uvmap etc...dunno if this is your problem though.

It might look bland now, but if you have played Strangetown Pt.1, you'll see that he usually decorates areas quite well You don't always need to work 6 hours in order to showcase something.

Forgive me, oh mapping god... shall I now stop showing you my work? If you don't like it, then for hell don't waste my showcase with your complains! Maybe you are more skilled in mapping, but I am NOT. This is not really fair if you destroy every stuff I create. I don't do this with yours, so please don't do this with mine.

Since I have opened my showcase, all comments that YOU have wrote, are at least 99% things like "this is bad, the other thing is bad, this is not so bad but a bit bad" and I almost NEVER read anything positive about my stuff from you...

Critic is allowed, but yours isn't critic, it's destructive.
"... worth showcasing"? That sounds like if it was shit and nobody wants to see it. That's all what I say for now. And why 6 hours? ...

@ F1NLAND: No the problem is sth completely different. I am going to post a picture of it tomorrow. Maybe someone can help me...

Because usually you spend too little efforts on your work or it just looks bad.
If you looked more attentiously through the forum you may've noticed that there's people whose work I appericiate and I really post positive comments on their good work.
I'm not saying you to stop mapping because you suck, but don't just waste your showcase with ugly screens like that one. If I were posting everything I make in 5 minutes my showcase would have a billion pages. Do something worth smart critic and then come back, otherwise you'll get only destructive comments from me.

Even if I had made big jumps in my level where 90% said it was nice, you said it was bad... but I hate to endless discuss stuff especially with you. Don't take it personally but in future I don't listen to your destructive comments anymore.

By the way, most of the people rated my works with large-variety comments like
- Good
- Nice
- Great

And your comments are really repeating:
- Bad
- Bad
- Bad

Got it? So and now no more endless cascading discussions or my showcase WILL become hundreds of sites.
And, it isn't true that I can't cope with critics, but enough is enough. Do you hear me wasting YOUR showcase with your style comments ("bad") all the time?

But I have got hope that you will get it one day and send me CONSTRUCTIVE critics, not DESTRUCTIVE...

Hey kid, if you didn't get this yet, everything I post is constructive comments based on a real facts. It's just you trying to run from the truth.

What they all say is a bad thing. If you continue listening to them you will never be a good mapper, believe me. When I was as new to mapping as you I always blamed myself in not having enough details or other stuff (though they also told me it's "nice"). It made me to improve with each new map, and even each new room.

Maybe if you ever grow up you'll understand that by calling your work "bad" I want to say that you can make it much better. The choise is up to you - to die in one place or live, move and develop yourself.

Knight_Christian, if you like, make your map and I'll add shadowmaps to the models if you PM it to me. I can beta test it as well then

Two birds, one stone

Oh and SLAwww, usually when someone posts a screenshot like that they are either asking;

"Is this looking good so far?"
or
"How can I further improve this section of my map?"

it's not really my bussiness, but with this in minds, I could call all your and other pics bad, because you can always do much better then you did. But that's not the point.

Again, slawww, what you are trying to do here is a good thing. You want to help people, that nice of you. But...
when you comment a work, especially when it's "n00b" in YOUR oppinion, your comments must basicly include 2 things:
1.) constructive critism, which means that you tell the person what and how to improve, but not by saying your work is bad.
2.) people usually avoid telling the pic, model, whatever is person showing, bad, becuase with this you lower their morale, and that's not a good thing. And you can't say it's bad because he is new to it and is only learning and nobody was perfect from day 1. Avoid saying it's bad, by saying "it's ok, but could be much better" for example. Use word "bad" only if you really think it's absolutely terrible. This way, the person gets a hint that he's on the right way, but needs to improve and this is what you are trying to achive on the first place anyway.

It isn't the whole world, it is just the model I have posted. When I add shadowmaps as I usually do, it looks really strange but it wasn't my target . No joke, it really is screwed up. I can post a screenshot later. MAYBE. In the problems thread.

But I agree with SLAwww, you could improve that area, and I'm sure you will. I'd add crumbs there if I were you, and maybe an altar or something where you pick up that plasma rifle. And maybe some ruins near the walls.

Ok thanks. By the way, do you see that, SLAwww? THIS is constructive critic.

However, FW's critic is helpful.

Anyway, I have added crumbs ages ago and look:
http://forums.seriouszone.com/showpo...&postcount=750

I don't know what's going on with it, I don't believe it's a mistake in uvmaps, but something must be screwed up... or have you seen grass that grows cut?

I've experienced "cut grass" on one of the terrains in SM Pt.2 too (last area); however, it still covered 2.5/3 of the whole area so I didn't bother to fix it. Perhaps it's the same error.

I'm not too good at helping when it comes to crumbs; I'm still having one hell of a time trying to figure out how to stop them from growing everywhere

Ok, after I got some inspiration from father industry , I have made a custom model:

http://img235.imageshack.us/img235/2032/rail0317071714dj1.jpg

I created this model for my Strange Town Part 2 map.

P.S. I have got actually 6 uvmaps and 7 polygon maps.
Can somebody please help me with that crazy amount?
I tried to map with 1 poly map and 1 uvmap, but that looked shitty...

He isn't, you can see it by the rails. They have an enormous shape. But proper texturing makes it to looks nice, though the whole thing seems to be copypasted a billion times.
As for your model Chris, it looks fine as for your first one, but the ground texture is too tiled and the rail texture is too stretched in one direction. You should fix this, also maybe put some normal map on the rails.
As for UVmaps, I always have only one for textures and one for shadows... Dunno how you mannage to create so many of them and why do you need all them.
Btw SED2 is not the best prog to start modelling from. Wings3D is much easier but not less powerful.
