Thanks for the files. I only used the boots and gauntlets .mdls though, since the breastplate, shield and helm are already as seperate models for items

When I update the player icons and update the .zip, I'll add your name to the credits for supplying the unfinalized models before I send it off to the S! filesystem again

I'll be putting this model in standby, but before I do I'll release the weight-mapped one so anyone interested can take it from there.

@ DB: I added a modified mesh to the archive...
In case you want an (even more) original player icon

@ Kristo:
Without a sword it wouldn't be Power Metal. True.
Now is there already a sword somewhere in SS2?
Apart from the katana (is there really a katana?).
Then again, a sword should be easy/fun to model.

I think the Orc Arbiter will make an awesome boss.
Roughly Onan-sized, with Onan-styled animations.
Smaller, weaker versions could be used, too.
And of course a player model. Or two

I think duke skeleton have sword but you should try to model much bigger and powerful sword. I like idea for boss size like barbarian!

@ Wytas: The name Power Metal kinda stuck because of your Off Topic thread.
I myself am not a Serious metal fan, but I might drop by on your club thread.
Care to link to the sword you mentioned? I trust your taste for swords

@ Kristo:
A big sword would rock, but I don't really feel like modeling...
(I'm not sure I'll be able to finish this Orc myself; see below)

There's a large sword model in SS2. It's a bit jagged though.
Looks like a pirate's cutlass; a greatsword would be better.

(If BuddhaMaster indeed did a "great sword", that settles it)

A reasonably good-looking weapon is the HellChick's trident.
It could have looked too much like a pitchfork, but it doesn't.

Onan's axe doesn't look bad either, apart from the color maybe.
Actually, it looks less plain than the trident, so I used it below.

Then there's the Centaur's bow... Looks absolutely gorgeous.

You know what? there's enough stuff for an arsenal there...
Imagine a mod where you'd collect and then select all those!
Or maybe the bossified Orc Arbiter could swap weapons...
Or there could be an army of "specialized" fantasy orcs

And of course, of course... a horse! My kingdom for a horse!
Right now there's no suitable ride for the Arbiter in all of SS2.
The Centaur doesn't need a rider... Cerberus is much too ugly.
Maybe a ghost horse, but that's anticilmatic: Holy Grail style.
The big dino, maybe... hm... maybe.

Anyway, here he is, and I don't think I can take him any further.
He's weight-mapped and all, but he's not exactly game-ready...

If he's a player, then he needs the usual player model stuff.
If he's an enemy, he needs a good weapon and a few anims.
Also, preferably, a unique behavior, to go with his weapon.
There's plenty of things one could do with such a model.
And I can't reasonably do all of them, so I won't do any

I don't really care who releases what or even who credits who.
So, anyone interested - go ahead and beat that Orc into shape.

Here he is. BTW, sorry about the download's size: almost 5 MB.
That's because I didn't remove any meshes, or the Ghost Knight.
http://geyser.oni2.net/SE2/Models/PowerMetal.gro

http://geyser.oni2.net/SE2/Models/OrcArbiter2.pnghttp://geyser.oni2.net/SE2/Models/OrcArbiter.png

P.S. I didn't weight-map the toes because I figured no one'd notice.

Kristo made a great horse model (textured as well) but he lost it. Maybe if you ask him nicely, he'll make it again
Or maybe if you can unfinalize the Centaur model, you can remove his body and model a head on it

Why is it mine?
Now that I think of it, could you definalize the Centuar model like you did for the armour peices? I wanna try and do the horse vehicle

My definalizer is still quick and dirty, and my free time is out (actually, I never really had any in the first place).
So while I can give the Centaur a shot, I will not... unless I'm very tired or bored or something. Wrong time.

(the Arbiter is yours because I completed the core of the modeling work and can't afford to tweak him further)

I can definalize small things like the Centaur's bow or Onan's axe rather painlessly, but it's pointless.

If Kristo is indeed good at modeling horses, I think an actual horse is much better than a Centaur.
The Centaur's torso will block the sight of the rider, so it's more like the Centaur is giving you a lift.
BTW, horse vehicles will look awful on slopes because of the lack of IK. Centaurs look awful already.

Erm... If you want to push the envelope, you could turn a definalized Centaur into a beheaded horse

I also thought of a lance/javelin. Very easy to make and possibly very good-looking. As for the axe, it might look better with a golden color scheme...

Any chance you'll model a horse for him? Or a werebull? Or a very large pig, even... If you want to use the Centaur as a basis, I might try to definalize him.

I can't see most screenshots in your showcase thread, but I guess any DungeonKeeper-styled model would make for a good companion to the Arbiter.
I don't mean to say that CT ruined Ellenier with those moronic dwarves, but it's really interesting what a serious fantasy mod of SS2 could look like...

I'm repeating myself, but the Arbiter is absolutely free for all to adopt, adapt, and improve. I'll never run out of cool ideas for him, but I won't implement them.

One idea would be to mess around with the current male dwarf model so he has a big helmet and axe strapped to his back, maybe re-texture him

......then use the same model for the female dwarfes too maybe altering the texture of the face

about the horse, definalize the centaur if you have the time and I can have a beheaded horse as you said with a machine with handles stuck where the head should be so Sam can control it (Much like the beheaded soldiers and kamikazes)

Yeah. Especially since the freaking Centaur has 3 freaking LODs and 13 freaking surfaces in total.
There's no way I'll be doing it in the same dirty semi-manual way as I definalized the armor.
The problem is also that I have little idea of the skeleton and weight maps for the centaur.
For the armor, I used an existing, non-finalized biped. Non-bipeds mean more work.

Next thing I'll show/release will probably be Oni's Mukade (another "knight in shiny armor").
I'll "show" the original Mukade without releasing him and release a Maya-authored new one.

Mukade will wait. Here's yet another knight in shiny armor. I give you: Oni's Iron Demon. Yeah.

http://geyser.oni2.net/SE2/Models/IronDemon.png

That's a rather old model made by one of us Oni fans. I finally got around to importing it into SE2.
It was unfinished, so I had to deal with a few degenerate triangles, bad "quads" and wrong UV maps.

Right now it looks OK apart from a few asymmetric "quads" (dunno whose fault it is, but not mine).
Next thing he needs is obviously some kind of skeleton (probably a new one from scratch) and anims.
I'll probably find some fitting walking anims in SS2, and if not, what the heck, I'll animate him myself.
Unless I find a way to import this other Demon (by another Oni fan):
http://www.turbosquid.com/FullPrevie....cfm/ID/262162
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sa-h6lXQ-p4

I'll release a big nice GRO with all the resources for that model, but... not today.

P.S. Ah, BTW, you can get a foretaste of the new Mukade here:

Now that looks cool, though a bit undetailed for Sam 2 standards.

Too bad the Iron Demon was removed from Oni before release.

Don't tell me about quality detail. Or show me a kick-ass model/material that wasn't made by CT
Undetailed, eh? Surely you mean the plain Shade shader? He has 2648 triangles, which is plenty.

I will set up some reflections and bump maps (basically enhancing the "metal plate joints") later.
Then again, the Demon is supposed to be big and white and clean. Functional. As in "Hugo sucks"

Before I make him a fully functional biped, I'll be making him in a very original racing vehicle.
And obviously the white space won't stay white on a racing vehicle. It's called ad space.

So as you can see there's a lot of ad space for sale on that baby. Please submit ads, everybody.
Logos, slogans (actual decals, PNGs, GIFs, or just ideas of cool stuff). Anything. The more, the better.
There will probably be a few color schemes (Ferrari red, Bugatti blue, whatever), with their own ads.

It already has a detail texture: some kind of white paint/patina.
So from up close, it's not a plain white mesh. It's "white metal".
Also see my two points above, about functionality and adspace.

EDIT 2: Besides, what models like those need is less detail, and more layers.
The only thing you can use a 1-LOD, 3k-tri model for is a boss character...

I don't think AF is relevant here: it's for surfaces seen at oblique angles.
If you don't see the patina on the surfaces facing you, AF won't help.
And actually it's normal since you wouldn't see it in real life anyway
Really, what kind of detail do you expect to see on a big, white robot?

Other than the adspace mentioned above (racing variant), I don't think he needs any detail.
Apart from bump maps and some specularity, of course. But those two are already on the list.
Then again, the biggest problem is with the "false quads". I still have to fix a few of those.

There will probably be a driveable variant tonight.
