Hey, that themer/styler thing is pretty neat. I know of libraries that allow you to render UI via (limited) HTML/CSS on OpenGL contexts, which is pretty fun. How is your theming/skinning/styling/whateveryoucallit thing structured?

Thanks. You know how I can design my GUI via XML and then load it in game similar to how it works on Android ? Well, a theme is basically a GUI layout written in XML which has all the GUI elements inside with appropriate colors and textures set.

So, when I load a real GUI from file or create one in code it is just sent to that preloaded "theme layout" to set appropriate colors, textures, fonts... Also, if I don't want the theme to override the newly created elements appearance I can set "flags" in a variable theme_skip = "font color_back texture...".

Ah, the comparison with how it's done on Android roughly explains how you're doing it, I guess. Nice! Keep up the good work.

Here it is, the day you all have been waiting for. A video instead of a gif

First video of my Broken Mug Engine showing some GUI features and font rendering. It is written in C++ and is based on SDL and OpenGL. Most of the GUI layout is defined in external XML files. Two GUI themes are also defined in XML. But you already know this...

To make the video more interesting I made a little preview of my map editor, basic Box2D physics and 2D modeler.

Few years ago when I first saw Box2D videos on Youtube I was amazed and wished I would be able to have physics like that in my games.

Now when I do I have no idea what to do with it :/

That means no gifs.

Ah yes, the infamous "Let's implement physics" and "ok, now what" routine I know all about it! lol

With the lack of ideas I decided I will just implement everything I need to remake Quake 2D in new engine.

I needed triggers and stuff to open doors and activate lifts, so I started making some type of event listener thingy that does stuff.

It took days... make action class, event class, save all to file, read from files, connect, make gui in xml, code gui behaviour in code, make it work in editor, change gui so elements can scroll according to map scrolling... too much...

Example: Believe it or not when the player hits the big platform(trigger), this event activates the "motor" of the joint that is connected to MotorRevolute action and it starts to rotate the smaller platform.

This is just the beginning of course to test it all works...

I am an not in the state to work on any project now, it took me three weeks just to start working on this event stuff and I got burn out in just two days

Let's wait until I get to build 0, or 1. Those will be public.

Today I visited a Quake 2 themed forum tastyspleen.net and what did I find ?

Their forum theme has a screenshot from my Quake 2D game on top http://forum.tastyspleen.net/quake/index.php

This really made me proud and means a lot to me

I am not sure if all this makes sense and how it's usually done. In this setup when players bullet hits the orange button the attached event listener starts one action which activates a particle emitter, and an action that activates motors of attached Box2D revolute joints. The yellow lines are clickable, so the connections can be deleted.

This is how it looks in the editor:

And this is in game:

Using poly2tri to triangulate complex polygons, then using the triangles to form Box2D bodies with multiple fixtures (triangle=>fixture):

I've made a new type of event listener which triggers an action when player presses a keyboard key or mouse button. Still need to make it block/unblock player controls, so the player sprite doesn't move if it controls something else, but whatever...

As an example I made a vehicle which can go left, right and break, all via event listeners and actions that control a Box2D joint motor. It's all done in the map editor.

I never used other editors, so I am not sure how confusing or not does all this event-action stuff looks. You could also make those actions trigger engine sounds or a particle emitter for the exhaust. It gets messy pretty fast.

I made a little demonstration of Worms like destructible terrain made using Box2D chain loops and polygon clipping library called Clipper.

You can download it or read how it's done here:
http://antonior-software.blogspot.co...ain-worms.html
It's the first public test of my engine, so if you encounter any problems let me know.

I made some line of sight stuff.

It's cool that I can get the area of the enemy/player which is visible, so let's say if enemy can see only a small part of the player it doesn't have to attack right away or something...
