Default The Talos Principle - Map Editor Timelapse Showcase

Hey everyone!

As a way to promote Croteam's The Talos Principle, and its often forgotten map editor, I have been given permission to create and show you this video.

In this video, I'm showing you the new Serious Editor 4, with a few new features and the process of building a level from scratch, using already made assets. The video itself is originally 4 hours and 35 minutes long, sped up.

I never even thought about that this game and editor could bring a whole new type of modders to the community, the ones focused on puzzles and stuff.

Also your real name is pretty cool

Attila's kiss, that sounds like a folk tail or a magic spell in a RPG or something. I will trademark it.

I find it funny that you spent more time making the mountain than the map. But other than that, the editor looks to be effective at making puzzles.

I think CT should include the editor in their marketing campaign and not just make it available and that's it.

Actually, this video was mostly made for that. Both Croteam and Devolver tweeted about it already, hope they will also link it on their facebooks and the like.

Yes, but that is still just few links to a video by some random guy, no offense.

I mean make it a thing like with Portal 2 Perpetual testing initiative http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7rZO2ACP3A

But, the editor is probably too complicated.

The editor will be forgotten about instantly once again if they won't bother adding tutorials or any help material whatsoever. Imagine 3ds max having no help files or an SEd2-3 GUI.

They should also do something about that GUI, simplicity is good but that's not simple. It's simply cluttered. Some thumbnails/tool images would be good too. Compare the GUI from SEd1 and this. You'll instantly notice the difference.

Yes, SED1 is harder to use and understand, at least to me, due to all those icons that make little to no sense whatsoever.

The problem with writing tutorials is that Croteam simply doesn't have a time for that usually, as it is an editor that they use for work, and was created for that, not exactly for the end-user. Due to this, only other mappers and modders can really write the tutorials. But, a tutorial focused wiki IS in the plans, a much better one than the current Serious Engine wiki.

Those prefabs for walls and such seem really useful for someone who just wants to build a new level out of existing stuff. Problem with the past editors was that the models and resources were always all over the place and you spent tons of time just looking where to find the model you wanted.

Well, with Talos, the models are even more all over the place, without actual organization.

The prefabs and the conversion script that comes with them is definitely super useful. But due to the complete lack of organization when it comes to models, using the Databoard with this one is a necessary now. I'll try building a useful one and sharing it with everyone.

That sounds like a good idea. Anything to reduce the time it takes for that kind of functions is for the best.

Wow that's really nice! And the dedication into making its is very impressive. It would probably take me a few weeks to make a level like that!
