The new map shown is from game called Facewound. As I said before, I had to test the usability of the map editor, so I decided to remake a map from that game using my editor. The map has around 1100 entities in 11 layers. The sky is scrolling, together with the buildings in the background it makes parallax scrolling effect.

Nooo, forgot to put the fog :/

I experimented a bit with this sector stuff and ran the Facewound map in idle* on 1280x768 to test it. I'll let the numbers speak:

Before: ~70 000 collision checks** per frame
After: ~15 000 collision checks per frame

Before: ~130 FPS***
After: ~150 FPS

In comparison the Bloodcrafter map from 2011, which was few times smaller, ran on barely 60 FPS.

Now if only physics would start working properly...

Well, umm... your game Serious Sam 2D RULEZ!!!! but there's a problem here.

Is it supposed to never cross the Leap of Faith?? I'm almost close to finish your game but it seems i can't cross, I played it with no cheats, and in normal, but i can't cross the level.

Is that normal? Does the game ends there?

Thanks for playing it Well, the problem is you need to play the game on serious difficulty to pass the Leap of Faith. The sign says "Only the serious ones shall pass".

The serious difficulty proved to be extremely difficult for an average player, even though I lowered the difficulty twice. That is why I added cheats. Problem was that I didn't have play-testers, so I had to adjust the difficulty by my "skills"

Edit: I updated the SS2D thread with this info.

Oh well anyways it was fun to play all the game, looks great for you to say it's as good as possible, looks more than this.

My reactions btw:

Beginning:
Well it can't be too hard

Night:
Oh Damn, i lost

Dunes:
Oh well, i can see it, ('kazies and harpies appear) NOOOO!

Alley of the Sphinxes Part 1:
(Cannon with 3 CB) Come and play (20th try) Wheew i can't be too far away

Before Leap of Faith:
I'm ALMOST THERE!!!! (17th try) I MADE IT :f*ckyea:

Leap of Faith: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! ('till i figured i can't cross, took me like 30 tries)

Anyways i had a lot of fun playing there, i give you a 9/10

Sorry if i'm double posting

Wow, this is the first time somebody reviewed it. Thanks

I guess I messed up with the leap of faith. Probably no one reached the final boss this way, and it took me so long to make him

Default The Bloodcrafter - 2011 source code released

The Bloodcrafter - 2011 source code released

YouTube Video: The Bloodcrafter

I release this code "as is". The code is one year old, at that time i was just starting to figure out how the engine works and how to write object oriented code. Expect only bugs, broken code and frequent crashes. And don't think I remember how to fix them now. If you run the game you will understand why I haven't released it then.

The engine is a bit modified Advanced2D engine by J.S.Harbour. You will need visual studio 2008(or newer), Directx SDK and a FMOD library(provided with the code) to compile the project. If you want to just try it, you will need the .exe file provided in the second link.

VS 2008 Project
http://www.mediafire.com/?xlju7f3k3jb2g2m

Game exe (extract the above archive and put the exe in AntonioR\Game\Release folder)
http://www.mediafire.com/?bkc59xyb4314fol

Controls are standard WSAD controls used to play FPS games, for more game and editor controls you will have to look in the game.cpp file under the keyrelease(), mouserelease() and similar functions. I don't remember what those controls were one year ago, but I do remember that there were Serious Sam enemies in the code also, not only creeper and a zombie. The editor is bad because it was the first version ever. Everything was in the experimental phase then.

And, btw the game crashes for some reason when you press 5 :\

But how to make fire ? Croteam uses real explosion images, even if I had those I am not sure it would look good here.

I used the smoke texture and at the beginning it is yellow and slowly it becomes more red and fades away. I think I am getting there

Hmm a little better, but maybe a little too much. I'd have figured it would have a similar ratio of explosion as smoke.

Well, when it explodes, there should be some smoke and about the same amount of flame, while still being the same amount of effects as now.
