Default Can anyone beat the game with no deaths in one playthrough?

On normal or higher. I find certain sections pretty hard without savescumming , but they can be beaten with practice (or replaying the whole level again and try to avoid accidental damage/ammo waste).

or how about a no hit run?

I haven't exactly tried without saving, but I think it's pretty impossible to do it in one go. The difficulty in Serious Sam classic stems from the fact that almost every enemy can do enough damage to kill you at any given time, and there's ~6000 enemies per classic game. Not to mention the deadly traps peppered throughout the games, and especially City of the Gods.

If you were to try something like Dead Space 2, where you have three savegames throughout the entire game, I think it would be doable on normal in The First Encounter.

Maybe a whole playthrough is a bit much. How about "death is allowed, but you must restart from the beginning of the level you die on"?

I think it's doable on levels without crazy damaging areas (those being the likes of the wind room and abyss bouncers from Valley of the Jaguar, wind rooms from City of the Gods, crushers from The Pit etc.), or levels with insane fights like Dunes, Metropolis, City of the Gods etc.

Maybe with enough practice those levels should also be doable, but who is crazy enough to try?

Yeah, Normal difficulty in Serious Sam is piss easy, I never save and never have to load on Normal, in fact I don't think I ever go below 100 hp... Serious, on the other hand... well, it should be possible to beat without dying, but I can't be bothered to try

Been a few years since I dropped in here.......but I feel compelled to note that I recorded complete-level demos for both First Encounter and Second Encounter on Serious difficulty. They're in the Files section.

(Disclaimer: These were recorded with the out-of-the-box versions of the original games, that is, version 1.00 for FE and (I think) 1.05 for SE. If you play them on the patched versions of the game, some of the demos (Sand Canyon, Dunes and Karna in FE, and I think City of the Gods in SE) won't play correctly and will show Sam dying partway through the level.

I'm debating reinstalling the games so I can capture the demos to video and then upload them to my Youtube channel. Then I'll have proof for anybody without having to watch them in-game.

cheers,
Phil aka Darth Hobbit

Holy shit, Darh Hobbit! I remember watching your Serious difficulty demos more than ten years ago and it inspired me to at least be able to play the classics on Serious difficulty myself. I learned a lot from your demos, but I never reached that fluidity you had.

I think Quackworth's YouTube playthrough of Rev on I-Am-Ugh-Zan difficulty so far has been without deaths, so theoretically it's not very hard, if you know the "strats"

You can still go to Singleplayer -> Custom Level -> Start. It's in the FAQ.
