On the other hand Croteam has no problem to retcom. The original backstory is almost unknown...

Gnaars have a battle with kleers ?? I know ho would win ...
I think that gnaars don't fit in ss2, because as you can see all of the enemyes are made in a "cartoony" stile and if you make a gnaar "cartoony'' ..... it will be just stupid...

Is that the official backstory? Cause in that backstory it says that the Army picked Serious Sam go to through the Timelock, while in SS3 we know that Team Charlie was supposed to go through the Timelock but was killed in an ambush...

Yes, that is the official backstory. Though only the end was retconned, everything else is still in effect and was referenced in SS3 (Mental was called as Tah-Um by its minions; mentioning the colonies in the Netricsa message of the turrets).

I like the SS3 version better as more tragic and incisive, but it is unclear how weapons arrive in the ancient Egypt now...

Tah-Um is Mental's original, Ellenien name (it means "One Infinite"). He was called "Chaad Sheen" by the Sirians and "Notorious Mental" by the Humans.

I think weapons arrived in the past via EDF feeding the Time Lock a whole bunch of weaponry for Team Gamma to use. Maybe the Time Lock - it being allergic to larger non-living objects - scattered the weapons through time and space.

Or it is symbolic? As as one of the entities devoted to destruction the ``One Infinite'' means the last number (or -1 if Mental is really nerd)?



About the retcom is a nice idea, instead of sending Sam and the weapons they simply sent the weapons before and Sam later. It works fine.

What the hell are you talking about? It is not that hard to understand:

Military puts every damn thing they can into the time lock to help Team Charlie. Wacky space-time issues make the weapons slowly teleport in instead of appearing in one place at once. That's it.

EDIT: Reading it again, it seems he thinks that the enemies and weapons are teleported in from the same source. That's false.

Here's what happens: Sam pokes around space and wakes up Mental. Sam enters the past via the Time-Lock to kill Mental. Enemies are teleported to Sam by Mental, while everything that helps the player is from the Earth Defense Force via the Time-Lock. The items were dumped into the Time-Lock before the EDF was wiped out and Earth was blown up. Some enemies, like the Mental Institution, don't need to be teleported in.

Wakes up Mental, what do you mean by that ? How can he wake him up ?

And as far as I can tell there are no double posts in this thread...



Just for fun, lets list the retcoms:

- Team Charlie did not existed in the original version, Sam was chosen. Now we know Sam went in the past following an idea of his.

- Earth was not blown up, the EDF continued sending supplies via timelock. Now we know that probably the weaponry has been sent before. Probably a little after Quinn enthusiastically phoned Sam about the timelock activation.

- Originally there was only one time lock, the one in Egypt. In the SE we know there are more, at least one for great civilization. And in NE we discover that also Mental has one.

NE is not part of the canon, it being a spinoff, so I wouldn't count that.

And yes, Sam was the captain of the spacecraft that transported a team towards a ring of asteroids surrounding Sirius. Not knowing that the ring was actually an alarm system, Sam activated it, and that woke up Mental at least 5000 years early. Sam blaming himself for all this decided to fight Mental and his army to the death.

Btw, the phrase is "retcoN", meaning "RETroactive CONtinuity".

Oh? Seriously? I did not know. It is because it is not from Croteam or there is an official position about?

Beside it is not actually a retcon anyhow (sorry for the misspelling). In the original story we only know that Sirians only got one timelock (few in SE). That story states nothing about Mental having or not having one.

This thread remembers me how I love people who states that Serious Sam has no story, it actually has more than many movies or games...

It is not by Croteam and they have barely anything to do with it. Also the whole thing goes against basically every game in the series, story-wise.
