Pretty much exactly what I thought about the mappack. I thought it was a fair review, it gave some deserved praise, while demonstrating the negative points really well. And you cut down the time on the intros and stuff which is nice.

Great review,I enjoyed this one a lot, keep em coming.

A Quick Suggestion,i think it would be cool if you also make videos reviewing 2-3 survival maps at a time.

Heh, great review! I knew it wouldn't be very positive, though I was surprised by some of the positive stuff that was mentioned (somehow, I'm never satisfied with the looks of my levels).

This review would have been perfect slap in the face for me back in the day when I released this pack and thought I shat real gold because everyone seemingly loved it due to being the only SSHD map besides Finzy's.

You were pretty right about all the problems with the map and it's good to see them presented to me, so I'll never forget my mistakes from my very first work. (Looking at you, Dry Valley, I still have to fix the Lower Road spawns, they are too Forgotten City like.)

Also, I liked that tidbit about how my maps have enemies spawning from far, I didn't think that would be so special, because Croteam does that too in TSE and I just learned from them.

So yeah, thanks!

BUENO

I too think this is a great idea, as there are a lot of survival maps to review, and my ones do come in a package.

I'll take a look at survival maps in a mini review collection, then.

Glad you took it well Solais. Glad you saw it how I did. Makes it all feel good when even the creator can agree that you were fair.

Hmmm, I almost think you should render the video in 16:10 aspect ratio, filling the spaces above and below the video with the red borders, instead of having them intrude on the video. Since you record the game in 16:9, expanding the borders of the video to 16:10 would give you an area of 32:1 both above and below to work with.

... Mind you, I'm the only person I know who actually uses a 16:10 screen resolution, but it would make the footage seem less "wide".

Anyways, clearly you need to review Raider City and Areas for SS2, because I obviously knew what I was doing back then.
(Although, I was actually thinking of doing a commentated playthrough of those maps myself)

Clearly, it was mention of Raider City that brought that reaction.

Anyways, 16:9 viewed at a 16:10 aspect ratio:

See all that black space? That's where I propose putting the red borders. So if your original video was 1600x900 (16:9), you'd increase it to 1600x1000 (16:10) and stick the borders in the newly opened space.
Just an idea, though.

Ryason, I use 16:10 too. (1440x900)

My reaction is based on the fact that I wouldn't even know what to do to actually DO what you're suggesting.

I thought the video was fine. 16:9 here.

I don't think it's worth adding even more borders just for one aspect ratio. You'd have problems with any 16:9 videos on YouTube if that was the case...and that's liek 90% of the videos.

The biggest killer for me was the lack of Health and Ammo supplies, as that became a major player in Normal difficulty and up. I am the kind of person that got through Sam Free World, and the only reason Sam Free World got a pass from me is that the map designer added respawning supply spots for extended battles. If the Forgotten City had those added, it would have been much better.

As a protip, start by attempting a Hard difficulty run, this is important because if it is too easy then, that eliminates the player skill as a variable, and you can definitely say that it's too easy. If you couldn't beat it on Normal, think of what causes your deaths, because that may give some insight as to what went wrong. For example, I pointed out the main problem with Persian Massacre as being too stingy with ammo, which made the map more frustrating than genuinely difficult to play through.

The problem with that is that I can't play the game on Hard and even Normal is a little challenging. What I learned from Forgotten City is that I need extensive public QA to determine the difficulty of the level. Which I'm doing it with SSHDX.

That is a good idea, but I was more talking about reviewing maps.

ACTUAL EFFORT

Ok I don't keep as updated on work done here as I used to, but I don't care how I sound when I say that, your review was awesome. Never before have I subscribed as fast to anything.

You should all start to make more maps to give him stuff to review!
