Exclamation Transparent textures (And possibly smooth model)?

Hello, its me again! I'm back to ask about another problem that I can't seem to fix despite looking around the forums.

Is there any way to make the textures like the hair transparent so I don't get a black background appearing? I tried using the translucent option but it doesn't seem to do anything

Here is what I mean (Check the highlighted area in red I drew & you'll see it): http://i.imgur.com/pQWfqu9.png

Also, while I'm still asking, is there a way to make my models look more smoother in the game? Maybe an option in Serious Editor or is it not possible?

Thanks for reading!

For those textures I believe you disable the black part by enabling Alpha Test in the texture settings, you can check the Serious Sammy model as that model also uses hair textures like that.

As for smoothing, which program do you use to import models into Serious Editor?

I use Blender for most of the imported models

For the smoothing issue, you have to change the number of the "Smoothing Angle" at the bottom of the "Layer" tab.

For the tranparency, you need to make sure the transparent texture is in the alpha channel of your .TGA texture (don't forget to save it as a 32 bit tga in your image editing program)

Then in Serious Editor, also at the bottom of the "Layer" tab, are the transparency settings. You can choose different sorts with "blend type"
For "soft" transparency you can just select "translucent" under "blend type"
For hair you also best enable "double sided"
For "harder" sorts of transparency, it's best to enable the "alpha test" checker box.

I could be wrong, but i think i remember that a certain sort of transparency caused some sort of graphical "dots" glitch with shadows.
